If you have had difficulty obtaining Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate tablets produced by Zentiva from your pharmacist, can you please email paul@lupusuk.org.uk with name and address of the pharmacy so that I can communicate about any supply issues with the producers directly. Thank you.

Zentiva Supply Issues - We Need Your Help
On a positive note Paul I felt I had to praise my branch of Boots in York. They phoned me Monday saying about problem trying to get hold of Plaquenil. I was armed with information about Zentiva due to this site. Passed said info on to them. Phoned me bk later that day saying they'd managed to get hold of Zentiva & had even arranged change of prescription with my gp's. For once I was impressed & it takes a lot to impress me lol. Hope everyone else gets sorted with minimal fuss. I find even little problems are big problems to me. So this was a breath of fresh air
That's really great smudge1980. There certainly are some places which are able to get it, but it is too inconsistent at the moment. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Hi Smudge, Im based in York and only found out about the Plaquenil issue today. Do you know what the change of wording needs to be on the prescription for Boots in York to process the order? Is it: "HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE SULPHATE (ZENTIVA) 200MG FILM COATED.
Hi Walfoh, yes you've got name correct for ordering. I also told them that Zentiva is sister company to Sanofi. I get my meds from Boots in Coney St. Generally very helpful.
I've laid the path for you with already getting mine you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck
Thanks so much for getting back to me and for doing all that work. Much appreciated.
Smudge, my GP says he cannot change his prescription and that I'd have to take the Teva Ltd version as that's the one on his online pick list. He said he'd have to write out a hand written prescription each time I wanted Zentiva which of course he wouldn't do. Can I ask how your doctor is getting round the fact that doctor's cannot pick Zentiva from the online picklist.
Morning Walfoh, coincidently I was at my gp's yesterday & she said she couldn't change it on my prescription because gp's not been notified of the change of company. They haven't got the updated medicine book which they prescribe from. But it was Boots that changed it for me & they said they'd notified my gp, but she said she'd not heard anything? Looks like one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. I'll be popping in to Boots next wk so will speak with the pharmaceutical team & see what's going on. Thought things went a bit easy for me. Just hoping Boots sort it out for me again. Have you spoken to pharmacy at Boots?
Yes I've spoken to the Coney Street pharmacy and they've said that the GP just needs to specify the generic name on the prescription without specifying a company name. So I went back to my doctor and asked that Teva was removed (which he's done). I will be ordering the tablets via a repeat prescription on the Boots website. The pharmacist asked me to request the Zentiva in the comments box. He said they try their best to meet customers requests and as long as I mentioned Zentiva in the comments box they would provide it. So far so good but I won't relax until I've seen this procedure work successfully.
Just to finish this story once and for all! my husband popped into Boots for me today and they processed my doctor's prescription and handed over the tablets. YAY! They've also got more on order for me. So chuffed to bits. Andy was the chap he dealt with and he was very helpful. They are a great bunch at the Coney Street store. I can't say the same for some of the other pharmacies in the York area!!
So glad you got sorted, I can hear the relief in your message lol.
Thanks again for posting your initial message. If you hadn't it would have taken me a hell of a lot longer to sort out because all the pharmacies I'd contacted very extremely unhelpful. I had expected Boots to be like all the other large pharmacies but they were great. This thread has been very useful. I'm sure when you pop back to Boots they'll be able to sort you out.
Had a problem until Cambs Lupus group gave details of ordering number. Chemist said he would try ordering it and I received it yesterday.
It is called Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate (Zentiva) 200mg film coated.
Pip number is 1201730. If the chemist can't find this on their system. They can ring the customer service line 01483 505515
