Hi ava97 ,

Have you shown these scars to your consultant? Do they appear to be permanent?

We have a booklet with some more information about skin involvement in lupus at lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...

yes they were seem more visible when I reduce my steroids dose.but whn I was on 30mg steroids even that time there was no scar.i know if I told my docoter about this he will increase my dose.there is something I should tell you...i am diagoinising by a medicine doctor...he is doctor of a famous hospital ....but the problem Is should I go to a dermatologist?cause my doctor didn't tell me to check up by a dermatologist.but the scars give me pain sometimes..now days the scars appear permanent.

It may be best to ask for a referral to a dermatologist because they will have more experience in diagnosing and treating skin problems. There may be other treatment options that could be effective but without so many undesirable side effects. Are you on any other treatments apart from steroids?

Hi ava97 ,

When you are on 30mg of steroids it is likely to help keep your lupus symptoms in check, but this is quite a high dose of steroids and because of the serious potential side effects you can not stay on this dose long-term. If your current treatment regimen is not sufficiently controlling your lupus, then you need to go back to your doctor and discuss this. They may need to try changing your dose or a different treatment.

Joint pain is a common symptom of lupus. It may be worth posting a new question on here to ask other members how they manage theirs. Sometimes applying heat packs or having a warm bath can help to ease the pain a bit.

It is also worth maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular physical activity. You can learn more about diet in lupus here - lupusuk.org.uk/diet-and-exe... and more about exercise and lupus here - lupusuk.org.uk/lupus-and-ex...
