Do any of you ever have a problem of your knee giving way? It happens several times a day to me, both knees seem to take turns doing it. Luckily I've never fell, I've managed to regain my balance

Knees giving way
Ministry of funny walks this way! Yes, Rach I have this erratically. Looks like I may curtsey then change my mind! Must be funny to see but it is unsettling to experience. So far, I too have remained upright but have no clue why it happens, it happens infrequently so I cant tie it to anything, as yet.
With everything else going on with me at the mo, ducking under an occasional, invisible, beam, is the least of my problems, so I am not overly worried.
If some doc wants to enquire about nerve problems, I might add it to the list, but until then, as long as I am not falling, Ill carry on.
Chin up Rach. If you are really concerned, see your GP, as you should all your worries.
Sorry if you feel Ive been too flippent. Just my approach to an isolated, so far limited action of my crazy mixed up scrambled Lupus body.
Best wishes. You are not alone.

Fab reply lol, made me giggle. Oh I'm not worried, was just curious if anyone else had it happening to them.
I can put my hand up to this, I have had ligament problems to go with the arthritic knees. Both were bad but fortunately didn't play up at the same time. I had trouble walking down slopes, my husband walked in front and I put my arm to his back as I had no brakes at all!
One would also go if I was bending down to get something out of the oven or fridge, (now built in higher) and when cleaning round the bath. If I went to turn and my foot didn't swivel with me the knee dropping would be excruciatingly painful.
Eventually, after arthroscopies that proved to be only a temporary fix, I have had both knees replaced. Drastic I know, but at least I don't have the pain or the unexpected giving way.
I too have this. The first time my right knee gave out on me was when I was 18. Doctor dismissed it. Knee would go snap, crackle pop. He still dismissed it.
Lived with it until this year. Like bluebell, going down slopes or certain stairs would cause my left knee great pain and discomfort. I have to walk with left foot angled out to help ease the discomfort. Finally doctor it looking into it. I go for an MRI in Oct.
My daughter, who is 19, and refuses to go doctor to get tested for lupus. I know she has it (sun sensitity, hair loss, rhumetoid arthritis, one blood test when she was 8 showed a zero white blood cell count, fatigued all the time). Anyhow, her knees have been dislocating since she was 10.
Not sure how this all ties in with lupus but know that you are not alone
Just another bothersome, come and go effect of this, I suppose?
May be a bit of a useless reply Lara, but that rang a bell somewhere in fog heaven. Have I read that double jointedness can feature with us? Joint instability anyway. Cant remember posh name, lucky I remembered d jointedness and could spell it 😱😱😱😱😱
Maybe ask Lupus charity direct?
Sorry to be so vague.
Opening the home for the perpetualy bewildered very soon. Any bookings???

Yes My daugther she has lots of the Lumps things happning to her. She was in hospital last year after having a fit they don't know what the fit was thou but it went on for 45 mins. I asked the to test her as the i get the gp to do every year but some of them won't do it. When she was in hospital they said it all came back clear so that was good. The gp has done this test 3 times this year now every 12 weeks and all have come back that she has sle so they sent her to the hospital to see the doctor and he says she don't have it??
Yes frequently. It's usually how I tell I've pushed myself too hard.
Happens every day for me I've never fell yet but it's a reality for WG sufferers has to do with the ligaments and small vessels at top of knee being damaged thru time don't worry your disabled enough it won't come to anything.
Yes! I have this problem but it is only my GP who is taking any notice of it. They don't only give way but are extremely painful and turn in. Started turning in when I was 14 and now my kneecaps face each other. My rheumatologist told me it was an orthopaedic problem. My GP refered me to orthopaedics and they said it was a rheumatology problem! Did get sent to orthotics where I was given knee supports. They don't do any good. My knees still give way whilst wearing them.
At the moment I don't have an official diagnosis of lupus. My rheumatologist believes I have lupus. Have most of the symptoms but negative bloods. My rheumatologist believes in seronegative lupus. Told me 2% of lupus patients are seronegative but he won't commit to the diagnosis. Seeing him again at the end of November. This will be the last time as he is retiring. Keep hoping my bloods will show something before he leaves. Don't know who will be replacing him, so don't know what their views on seronegativity will be.
