This is my first time of posting.I was admitted to hospital as I started coughing up a lot of blood.which was very frightening.I had chest X-ray,Ct scan on my lung,of which I already have bronciectasis, and also a endoscopy,as they thought a ulcer may have burst. All that showed was slight inflammation in my lung.I was discharged but went back to hospital with terrible pains which proved to be pleurisy,I'm on antibiotics but it's really knocked Me down. They still don't know why I was coughing up blood.could it be lupus related.Has anyone else been troubled with problem?

Coughing up blood.
Hi and sorry you have had a scary time.I don't know if it is Lupus related but when I had pleurisy I was coughing up blood which turned out to be from blood vessels in my throat that had become inflamed the same as chest and lungs.Hope whatever it is you get sorted soon.
Take care and rest as pleurisy can really take it out of you .
Thinking of you

Hi mousey1, Welcome to the community.
I can't really answer your question. I have lupus which has damaged my lungs (fibrosis of the lungs). I do cough a lot but has never coughed up blood.
I was vomiting up fresh blood about two years ago but I was told it could just be the blood vessels in my throat. I did have to go and have an endoscopy after to check my gullet and stomach. all was well.
Take care
Maureen xx
You could ask the doctor for specific lab testing to rule out Wegener's Granulomatosis or Churg-Strauss Syndrome or one of the other autoimmune illnesses that frequently affect the lungs.
Thank you for that,I will make a note.
