From mice to human trials and distribution - a long and arduous road, years away. But hey, at least someone is interested in finding a better treatment.
I can't say the article suggests a cure - having a cure presupposes knowing the cause of the disease. And no one yet knows what causes lupus. But until then I'd take a treatment that doesn't cause such serious side effects as what we are taking now, even if that means swallowing two pills instead of one
Very true, and it makes the mind boggle on how the mice got Lupus in the first place! So many of us are affected, let's hope something good comes out of this for all of us someday. 😊
The lab gave the lupus to the mice, that's why there is so much resentment in the animal rights community in terms of testing on animals. But let's not get into that!
Thanks for this!
How could they give the mice lupus though? This is puzzling me. Perhaps it's my brain fog but if no one knows what causes lupus and it isn't contagious or passed by blood then how do they give the mice it?
Unless there is something I don't know x
I can only assume that they can manipulate the immune cell response to mimic the effect of lupus - it doesn't mean they know what causes that response in the natural environment (I.e. Not artificially causes). Again, knowing what causes something leads to a cure, no one knows exactly what triggers the abnormal reaction. Which is why all the treatments we currently have are focused on dealing with the symptoms, not the cause.
They have bred a mouse with lupus and then they do a lot of tests on them, and also use them to figure out how lupus works in their bodies--and our bodies.
Ah tk u ! Very interesting post to read!!yes I hope and pray this ghastly disease will eventually be cured!
