Has anyone been successful in obtaining Zentiva brand hydroxy recently?
I posted about this a couple of weeks ago and am still struggling. In desperation, I phoned Zentiva last week and they were very helpful. Their manufacturing issues are resolved and plenty supply is going out to the distributors. They even offered to help my pharmacy get the supply in, but my email has to them has gone unanswered so far. These distributors seem to act as a cartel, but their assets effect our lives. I am in Tyne & Wear, have tried phoning around loads of other pharmacies and come up blank. My 'in case of' stash is almost out. What do we do?

I have been issued a different manufacturer on my last issue . I am still using my Zenvita stash from my previous issue. Dreading when it finishes when I am going to start using the new batch. Will see what happens.
hi cobsie sorry to hear your having difficulty getting your Zentiva Hydroxychloroqine. There appear to be a number of us who have had ongoing issues. In January this year I was having issues yet again, I contacted our Medicines Management Team for Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. They were quite helpful and even offered to speak to my Pharmacy directly. It appeared that the Pharmacy didn’t know Zentiva had changed the colour of the packaging and the pharmacy suppliers hadn’t been able to get from the wholesalers/distribution centre. I still have to be vigilant though as some staff in the pharmacy do not realise I cannot take any alternative Hydroxychloroqine!!!! If I’m given something different I usually refuse to take it and tell them I’ll back back in a few days. Unfortunately I’m only able to get a months supply at a time. I also informed my Rheumatologist I was having difficulties with this prescription. Good luck I know it’s tiring but we have to persist in this. 🌻
For the past two months I've had IPCA brand which is a new brand for me. My pharmacist usually gives me Zentiva. I'm going to place another order today so I'll see what I get this month. I am lucky though in respect that I can tolerate other brands..I just prefer Zentiva 😹I hope you manage to find some soon 🤞💜🌈xx
Thanks. I had a reaction to Quinoric so am reluctant to try others. Zentiva should be available as they said there are no manufacturer hold ups now. Glad you can tolerate IPCA. Take care x
not without a fight, I also spoke to Zentiva and they asked for my pharmacy to ring them, my pharmacy said their head office has said they are not permitted to contact Zentiva at all! Anyway after my hubby going to 5 other pharmacies, including Boots, who Zentiva said do have them, not in my town! he went up to our village one, usually they are no help at all and they had a months supply for me, but no doubt it will all start again in two weeks time, it is all too stressful xx
I tried Boots, Lloyds etc plus couple of other independents. I chased my usual pharmacy today and they have still not got it. For some reason they won’t contact Zentiva either 🤔. I have no idea what to do or who to scream at. We are not asking for anything out of the ordinary, just meds we need that don’t make us unwell. Take care and hope your next lot is easier to get
I've been reading responses and it sounds familiar from past experiences. Some pharmacy chains, or even individual local managers, don't want to stock expensive brands, so they obfuscate. If we had a functioning government, someone in the DoH might tackle it, but we don't. Perhaps contact your local CCG who can chase it up?
Thank you. It is difficult to know who to chase and how quickly they can investigate to get a result. This happens frequently and I wonder about the price difference vs effectiveness of meds. We don’t choose meds on the colour of the box or whether they have 3 stripes or a Nike swoosh tick. Does anyone have access to pricing? There must be an answer somewhere but I am about to run out completely, so how much will it cost to look after me the? So frustrating and it does not help that I know many more of us have the same worries and issues. Thank you for your sound advice and take care x
I tried Boots and it was a no. Cost cannot come into it if you have a reaction to other brands/fillers. Policies written by pen pushers who don’t rely on medication for quality of life? Sad. I would pay a couple of quid difference just to get hold of the meds so I can stop stressing about it. Take care x
I live in Plymouth. My local pharmacy couldn't get Zentiva for me so I took my prescription to a large Tesco superstore with a pharmacy about 8 miles away and they did my Zentiva prescription straight away. What a relief 🙂
So if anyone has a nearby Tesco with a pharmacy I would definitely recommend you try there, perhaps ring first if it's a long way away.
Thank you. Glad you are sorted. I use an independent pharmacy and they haven’t been able to get any, or so they say. Going to ask for my prescription back so I can trawl round some others including Tesco. Take care x
