I tried botox, honestly I could see no difference :( I want/need some fillers :) Now that I'm in my 50's and the damage is done. . . .I'm pretty sure dermal fillers are my only hope to keep from looking 70 at 57

Botox is a poison, and with our compromised immunity I personally would be VERY careful about introducing poisons into my system.... I love my laughter lines. Every line is earned through things I have experienced in my life. :-) xx

Thanks. I think I was just having a "ugh" moment and somehow thought that if my lines were erased I would automatically feel better! So true about it being a poison and really not worth the risk, as I really dont know how my body would react and for the $$ its an expensive way to find out

I have been having Botox just on my forehead for many years now. It really makes me feel better when looking in the mirror - no deep tramlines or frown marks. I don't have it for laughter lines or eye crinkles. As long as you don't have a huge amount which makes you look plastic I think it can be a boost to self esteem. It is a very regulated 'poison' but choose the practitioner well. It has been good for me.

Great response thankyou! It is my forehead

I have my issues with. So papery thin and looks like i am permanently frowning.

You absolutely understand my desire for a self esteem boost.

I felt the same as you and have been thinking of getting Botox for a long time but was scared because of my Lupus. I finally plucked up the courage a month ago and got my forehead done. I am so glad I did it as it really made a difference it made me look refreshed and also helped me withmy self esteem. Go for it with a good practitioner

I feel the same way. My face got really wrinkled because of all the weight I lost when I got sick and stayed sick. I have a problem maintaining my weight (107-109) because my SLE carries so many other diseases with it. I wish I could do something about the wrinkles! I also have a "red patch" on my left cheekbone which I've tried everything to get rid of - Kela Cote Aquaphor. Nothing works. It's more than likely Scleroderma. I am 71. I used to look 51. If I could gain a few pounds and get something done about my face and the wrinkles my attitude would improve. Everyone says the same thing - "You have to learn to accept it." Kinda sucks doesn't it???

You are not vain. With all the other struggles we have, don't feel bad about wanting a bit of a "boost." In my personal experience, a small dose of Botox carefully applied is helpful, both to my appearance and to my self esteem. Good luck!

Wow, thanks everyone! I was feeling kind of selfish for wanting to look better and I realise I am not. I am normal!! Im going to check out some good doctors and will let you know! After all the illness controls so much of my life it is about time I do something for me.

Why not try collagen waves instead? It is much more natural, just heat activating collagen. I suspect is not recommended for scleroderma sufferers, given the production of excess collagen but it should be ok with lupus. Just check with tprheumatologist first, I'm not a doctor.

Celebrities are quickly moving onto this, leaving Botox behind. Have you seen Mel B's skin on xfactor? She's having collagen waves regularly apparently.

I havent heard of that procedure before. Sounds interesting. Will have to check it out
