high I have sle and now having blood probs my crp has elevated to 16 ,my ferratin is 169 my e&u is 39 anyone now what these test are indecation had them repeated 3 times over last 3 months and increased everytime getting worried

Hi Debby

CRP being raised could mean you have an infection as in Lupus this usually stays normal if your in a flare with inflammation. Don't know the significance of your other tests, good thing your being checked regularly. What treatment are you on?. Could also be the drugs causing it.X

Hi Debby, U's &E's are measurements of electrolytes and urea, as in potassium, creatinine etc, and urea is for checking kidney status. I don't know about ferritin levels, but I am sure you can find information on uk sites. Go back to your Dr and say you don't understand what they mean and could he explain them, and what is your treatment plan, as you are worried. Hope you get sorted soon, let us know how you get on.

It sounds as though whoever gave you those results didn't give you much in the way of an explanation, the crp is what we call an inflammatory marker for most people ,when tested ,

the result should be below 5 , at 16 yours is above normal but not by much the higher the

the crp number is tells us how bad the inflammation or infection is , 16 is not high enough

for you to be worrying about it as the number can get into the hundreds under some conditions

also ferritin is a measure of iron and can be inaccurate if taken when the crp is raised , as for the urea and electrolytes test it is a measure of several things in your blood , Im afraid 39 doesn't tell us much unless you know which of the electrolytes it represents.

Sorry I cannot be of more help ,ask your Doctor to tell you what result goes with each test.

most importantly don't worry your numbers are not scary so go back to the Doc and write down what goes where.
