Anaemia and B12 shots.

I have had a call from my doc to say that I need a series of B12 shots because I have anaemia. It seems my liver has been affected by my SLE. Has anyone any experience of this?

Iv been having b12 injections for over 10 years now as my guys don't absorb protein. I have an injection every 3 months without it I'm a zombie. But I was diagnosed with lupus only few months ago so don't know if it's linked!

like AnnieKhan, been having probs with anaemia for past 6 years and received iron transfusions, but only been diagnosed last year.

Hello!

Lupus is amazing hey! This is unfortunately another lupus thing... I've been diagnosed for 7 years. Unlucky those who don't have it! He he Yep I had this... I was needing to sleep soooo much... Couldn't run as was so tired... Got better in 3 months and not taking it! Best thing is to eat healthy and do some exercise if you can... I then got sciatica which was very lovely too! But all I will say to you... Is sleep eat well (healthy) exercise and do not worry! :-)

Thanks everyone. On the whole I eat a pretty good and balanced diet. We grow nearly all of our own vegetables as we have two allotments and that also provides a source of exercise. I also go to a gym once a week and although I am very limited in what I can do I have got a gentle workout regime sorted out with the staff there. It sounds as if these B12 shots really do help so I shall wait patiently until Wednesday and my first one. It's just that this SLE seems to be one damned thing after another. I manage to get on top of one problem and then another one pops up which makes any idea of making progress a bit hard to hold on to.

Hi Stephen H. I have B12 injections too and they do help. It's definitely a case of one thing after another with lupus, as you say. I feel it's 2 steps forward and 1 step back. But on the other hand at least the doctors keep a close eye on us and pick up on these issues and get us on the right treatment.

A healthy diet is good but it's my understanding that if you need the B12 injections due to, for example, likely pernicious anaemia, then no amount of healthy eating will do the trick. That's certainly the case with me. With an autoimmune cause to my problems I need the injections to supplement my deficiency and keep my liver topped up with B12 stores.
