Hi folks, just briefly my brother has been stuck in Beijing for the last 20 days, he was on his way home back to the UK, as he teaches out there, he has quite severe lupus, he has stopped all medication for the last couple of months. He is in such a bad way, his face, arms, hands have all become infected, his finger nails have dropped off and our biggest worry after he went missing for 4 days sleeping in parks, he eventually found an English speaking hotel, people refused to help him because the way he looked. Now he is stuck in a hotel room, apparently his visa expired, he has a fine to pay, but we don't understand what is happening with his paperwork, he cant remember anything, he cant speak clearly anymore, he gets anrgy and frustrated abd is drinking heavily. The British embassy have given us limited help, which is why I now have to go.....thanx for reading this and advise or support you are able to give myself for the trip or anyway we can help my brother.
Thank you
Uzi. X

Oh my God, the poor man!! Have a safe trip and don't forget to take some steroids with you, all that stress and heat and humidity might bring about a flare, a low dose might help you a bit. Don't forget that it is a different world, so don't lose your patience, just go through all the hoops suggested and you'll come out quickly than arguing with everyone out of sheer frustration. Good luck, Uzi!
What an awful situation to find yourself in and I feel great sympathy for your brother, I can strongly recommend two things for his skin as my skin gets in a terrible state like that sometimes, firstly Dermamist spray for when he has a bath if he gets out and dabs himself almost dry then gets you to spray this on him it moisturises the skin. The other thing is liquid and soft parafin 50/50 applied very liberally all over the bad skin on the hands apply that then put cotton gloves on over it but do not use a gas cooker or naked flames as this is flammable, if his feet are bad apply liberally to the feet then put cotton socks on that are a bit too big so they don't rub it straight off but keep it moist. My nails came back after a few months and I have a few scars from where the skin was really bad, a good strong pain relief was useful too. I am now photosensitive and have to avoid all U.V. rays whether it be from the sun or light sources such as low energy bulbs or florescent lights.
Good luck and I hope you have a safe trip and manage to help your brother and his condition improves soon so that you can bring him home
