Thats totally wrong , you can claim PIP or DLA regardless of whether you are employed or not . I know , because I work and I claim it .

I thought they had decided it could be claimed regardless of employment?

Well, I don't know about this any more. Things are changing in our Welfare state, as you all know.

DLA used to be available if you worked - and could provide extra income for mobility or essential tasks like getting a meal in the evening.

But DLA is being replaced by PIP - and I don't know what those rules are. I will do some googling and try to get back to you.

OK - well this looks conclusive. The answer to whether or not you can get PIP if you work is YES.

Not wanting to contradict, but I was awarded high rate DLA mobility component whilst still in f/t employment - based upon the fact that my mobility was restricted due to my illness, regardless of my employment status.

I also know of someone who is visually impaired and in receipt of disability benefits which enabled them to remain in f/t employment and was intended to incur any additional costs as a result of their disability.

I should make enquiries with the Dept for Work and Pensions if I were you.

I think you can get DLA, someone I know who has had four back operation, who is working full time and getting help to help her do cooking and cleaning. Also she is getting DLA for life I was told.

I too was awarded disability living allowance whilst in full time employment. I'm unsure about the new rules with the PIP though, I haven't been transferred over yet. Since being awarded the DLA my health took a drastic downward spiral and I haven't been able to work, I'm on long term sick. However, as mentioned, initially it was awarded whilst I was in full time work. It isn't/ wasn't a means tested benefit. The money given is to assist you with the added expenses that come from limited mobility :-)

Yes you can. It depends on your disability. Eg blind, or amputee will qualify for mobilty rate regardless of overall health. However, someone with chronic fatigue may not, even though they sometimes struggle to walk.
