Dear Pink-61

Sorry to hear your husband had lung cancer and encouraging that it is all clear now. It can be a challenge to obtain travel insurance since Covid.

This link will take you directly to our travel booklet and there are a list of providers on pages 36 and 37, there are also travel insurance providers of Avanti and Insure With that others on the forum have recommended.

Hope you manage to have a lovely holiday and hear from others in the forum who can make suggestions.

If there is anything else you would like to discuss you can email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600

Kind regards

Hi Pink-61

I can highly recommend Insurancewith.com I have travelled to the Maldives in May and about to have a month in Australia. I'm an insurance broker with Stage 4 NSCLC, finished 2 year maintenance and immuno course 14 months ago and currently in remission. Due to the nature of the disease its highly unlikely you will find an insurer giving an annual multi trip. I've done several one off single policies. Hope this helps.

My husband has stage 4NSLC and I have just got annual multi trip with Insurancewith. Application bit detailed and needed some medical facts to complete. Got a fit to travel letter from Consultant as well. Good Luck, it was worth it. Had a single trip policy with them prior to that.

hello Pink. There's only one insurance provider for me. Also NSCLC. Their website is: insurancewith.com. I paid £67 for a cruise 10 days. And recently £32 for 10 days Menorca. Go on line and complete their form.

It's been more complicated since the pandemic but I didn't travel for 5 years after my open surgery due to the high premiums then I decided I was fed up with UK breaks (mainly due to weather) and wanted some sun! I've found over the years (that was 2016) that different companies are sometimes better dependent on where I'm travelling to - also the type of travel - cruises are more expensive to insure, some countries may not have good hospitals so premiums are higher due to having to potentially medically evacuate patients to other countries, countries like Spain tend to be more expensive as they tend to send people off to private hospitals and the withdrawal of EHIC/Brexit consequences all playing a part as well as age and any other conditions the patient may have.

I've travelled to Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Greece, Spain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Malaysia, Slovenia, Italy, Sicily, Ireland, Jersey for work and leisure since 2016 but until 2019 had to take out individual policies each time. In 2019, Saga changed their 'cancer' qualifier question from 'have you ever had a cancer diagnosis?' to 'in the last 5 years have you had a cancer diagnosis?' I phoned them to check as their computer had offered me an annual policy and they said for their demographic (over 50s) that was now their criteria. Having travelled this year with them to Italy/Sicily, they'd changed it again to ask whether somebody was still seeing a consultant relating to their cancer.

I've used Saga, Allianz, Covercloud, Get going insurance and others - there are also Staysure, Allclear, Insurance with and a few years ago I met the founder of another insurance company dealing with cancer patients/survivors which was Insurecancer.com I tend to use comparison sites like payingtoomuch.com and medicaltravelcompared before I book anything to get an idea.

Really important to declare it as changes in temperature, air quality, humidity, altitude are all factors that might trigger a reaction. The founder of insurecancer.com said, that's the risk they have to cover especially medi evac - rather then the cancer alone as many cancer patients have other conditions . good luck and hope you get your holiday sorted.

I’ve been in remission NSCLC since sep20. Had some crazy quotes by insurers who provide cancer cover of £1000 plus! In the end I was recommended insurancewith.com who were very reasonably priced in comparison. They were very helpful. I took out the multi trip policy which was about £350. I’ve been on a charity trek to Cuba and Greece for a holiday so far this year.. It’s best to give them a ring, they were very helpful. insurancewith.com was setup by a lady who had cancer.
