Hello everyone I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this, I have recently had my biopsy, getting my results tomorow however I have seen a letter written today from the mdt to my surgeon just explaining my history as in 2018 I had liver cancer 2019 I was clear and then it says her lung nodules have increased in size since 2020 and 5 more have grown and changed in size 2022. The nodules were not present in 2018 does that mean they have seen the nodules since 2020? And have only informed me of them growing in size and having many more growing also in March this year 2022?
Is it normal to let the patient know 2 years later? Also since January my doctor has known about the nodules and have 5 grown from January to April.
I am very stressed and upset and just would like to know is this normal?

If they’re small they sometimes don’t get mentioned. Different radiologists will remark on different things.
If you’ve had a recent chest infection, asthma attack, allergic exposure, air pollution or fume exposure, that could cause nodules to appear or grow larger.
Hi Valentina,12 months after my lung surgery and reading a letter from my consultant after my 6 mth scan, I also discovered I had a nodule on my other lung that had grown a little more that they had been keeping an eye on. I guess there is times they do not tell you if they have no immediate concerns. Good luck getting your results 🤞 x
Sorry to read you're upset and anxious - not all lung nodules are harmful - many are benign. The increase in scans for people's lungs from screening or the pandemic has revealed how common these are - think of them like moles that are on the outside of the skin but many have nodules on the inside of the lungs. Like moles, the majority are harmless but the UK and other countries have what they call protocols for monitoring them - below certain sizes or if no changes then they're not actioned upon. Like lymph nodes around our neck that can swell and inflame if we have an infection, lung nodules can also inflame and show as larger on scans but also reduce in size once the infection/inflammation subsides so you can imagine if every small increase in size resulted in people being sent for harsh unnecessary treatments, a lot of potential harm could be done. I've enclosed a link to a video that was done some years ago about lung screening to try and explain how common it is to have lung nodules and hope this may put your mind at rest a little. Clearly they're monitoring them, noting and hopefully you'll learn more at your appointment tomorrow.... so do ask the consultant the questions you've posed here... we're all different so it's always best to speak to our own clinicians for the best advice about our personal health and history.... good luck. youtu.be/U3oirXkufno
It is understandable the worry of the nodules has caused distress for you. There is not much to add from the kind detailed response from JanetteR57
Please feel free to contact us after your appointment tomorrow if you wish to discuss further, and hopefully things will be much clearer for you
