Finally a diagnosis

Mum has lung cancer absolutely devastated but keeping positive. It’s stage IV as it’s spread to her spine so unable to be cured. Initially told mum would need chemo, then radiotherapy on her spine but had an oncology appointment straight afterwards and they decided as the cancer was EGFR+ they are treating with tablets and mum has to go in for tests every 2 weeks initially to see how effective they are. Back in tomorrow for a blood test and if ok will pick the tablets up and begin them straightaway.

Really sorry to hear your Mum’s diagnosis. It is similar to mine. I was diagnosed in February 2016. It is however good news that your Mum is a candidate for targeted therapy. I hoped I would be but wasn’t. Most people seem to cope better on targeted therapy than chemo so hopefully any side effects won’t be too bad. Sending best wishes and positivity to your Mum on her cancer journey and to you supporting her. 🌼🌸

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s so comforting to hear from people like you. I’m sorry you weren’t a candidate for targeted therapy but you are doing well regardless and hopefully will continue to do so. Hoping and praying mum does well on the therapy. Wishing you massive luck xx

It's an awful time waiting for results but now you/they know, a treatment plan can and is being set up. This is really necessary for lung cancer whose treatment has really developed in the last 4-5 years with many people living years with 'treatable not curable' disease. As others have said, it's fortunate she has 'targets' to target with precision medicine so good luck for you/her with the treatment. More information available about what might be expected on Roy Castle lung cancer website under 'how we help', 'information', lung cancer treatments'. It won't be easy but wishing her all the luck as she starts this next phase of her life. good luck to you too as you support her. x
