My husband is taking oral crizotinib and is shortly going to have a tooth extracted. He will probably need antibiotics afterwards but we are worried about which one he will be able to have whilst taking crizotinib as we understand that a lot of antibiotics interact with this drug. Also to make things more difficult he is allergic to penicillin!! We will talk to our oncologist at our next appointment but wondered if anyone had been in this situation or has any advice. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Tooth extraction and antibiotics whilst taking crizotinib
Hello there. Still going strong. I had a tooth removed a few months back and my wife insisted I had antibiotics, just in case. Fortunately, I didn't have to take them. In saying that you must speak to your oncologist first as there appear to be a whole host of drugs that shouldn't be taken with Crizotinib. I hope Steve is doing well, apart from his dental problems.
Take care.
Colin
Hi Nannyjanny,
You are right to speak to the Oncologist. It might also be a good idea to speak to the dentist re drugs and penicillin allergy in advance of your husbands tooth extraction, rather than wait until on the day.If you cannot speak to the dentist right away, speak to the receptionist explain the situation and she can ask the dentist to contact you for advice in advance of his appointment.
Kind regards,
All the team at Roy Castle Helpline.
