This is a tough situation for you and your dad. It is good that he has options, however tough, as it sounds as though they have found his cancer early.
If it is of use we have booklets on both treatments and an "Answering your Questions pack". This might give you some background and also be able to prepare some questions which might help with decision making. For example the forms of radiotherapy that can be provided, whether they are potentially curative and how that weighs up against the form of surgery, recovery time and risks involved.
I am sure you will get some good input from the forum members. Your dad should be assigned a Lung Cancer Nurse specialist and he/she would be able to give you a bit more information into the specifics for your dad.
