My husband is on carbo platinum , Olimpta, and Keytruda. The CT has shown reduction of cancer by 30%, he feels great but he has terrible heartburn. Has anyone had an experience like this?

I have been on the same chemo drugs recently. Part of the post infusion protocol I was given included taking daily protonix (acid blocker) to protect the tummy. Perhaps try it? For sure if your oncologist is not addressing this--do NOT ignore it. See a Gastroenterologist perhaps--or even just speak to your GP?
Hope this helps!
And my best wishes for you.

Very happy to hear that your husband has had a good response to his treatment. I too had problems with heartburn during chemotherapy. My oncologist recommended Omeprazole and when it was very bad, Sucralfate. Keeping his medical team apprised of this side effect is important. Wishing you all the best.
So glad your husband is responding to treatment and is feeling good! My oncologist put me on omperazole, which is the generic of Prilosic. I also sleep with more pillows to keep my head and throat above my stomach - at first this was very uncomfortable, especially since I sleep on my side, but eventually I got used to it. Please address this with his oncologist so that a med can be prescribed that does not interfere with the chemo. It may be as simple as taking it at a specific time, but the oncologist should know.
So happy your husband is having success with his treatment. I also had heartburn and took omeprazole and elevated the head of our bed. Talk to his doctor about this.
All the best,
Judy
I’m also on Keytruda and went off generic protonix (pantoprazole) to reduce # of pills I’m taking. I’ve also got metastatic breast cancer, unrelated and am taking daily targeted therapy pills for that. So I’m trying papaya chewable pills from Amazon. Recommended by others. Too early to tell if it’s working yet. Worth a try.
Adding my voice to the others. Talk to the doctor. Omeprazole is the most often recommended medication for this. Some Rx plans cover it, mine does. Left untreated it can lead to Barrett’s esophagus (a precancerous condition).
My dad was on the same treatment but he didn’t have the heartburn. Just adding a side note of info - Omeprazole (Prilosec) and Nexium interacts with certain medications and that is why my dad was advised not to take it. He was on Lipitor for cholesterol, which can interact with Omeprazole, as well as several blood thinners could potentially interact. Omeprazole or Nexium and Plavix can be dangerous together. Just know what medications your husband is on and make sure or clear it with a doctor. I know it sounds crazy to think something for heartburn, but my dad couldn’t take it with the meds he was on. Some natural remedies my dad did use when he had heartburn occasionally - ginger, small amount of apple cider vinegar mixed in water, fresh pineapple juice.
