Still extremely concerned about my Dads weight loss. He has had nausea in the morning and usually throws up breakfast. He is 106 pounds. On Tygrisso , which has apparently taken away 80% of the cancer. Nothing new has grown back. So why is he still struggling with weight so much. He does eat a lot when he’s not nauseous.
Weight loss: Still extremely concerned... - Lung Cancer Support
Weight loss
I assume you have talked about this with his oncologist. Can he drink Boost or those kind of shakes without being nauseous? Has he tried eating later in the day since he can’t keep his breakfast down? I know I went through a spell while I was on Alimta that I just couldn’t eat. I finally was able to eat soups. My oncologist was waiting to see if I could eat again on my own before I was to get a feeding tube. Fortunately, my eating kicked in and I was able to avoid that. It is great that the drug he is taking is working! I would certainly talk to his doctor again about his weight loss and if there is there reason to be concerned. How is your dad’s attitude? Is he worried about this?
Let me know how he is doing and if he gets the weight issue under control.

He eats just about anything. Doesn’t like certain spices. He won’t eat any sugar unless it’s fruit. He’s in the hospital now they just found a blood clot in his lung. They where checking on his stomach but found the clot
What kinds of things is he able to hold down. Perhaps we can come up with ways to increase their calorie count. There are medication that help control CINV (chemo induced nausea and vomiting). Ask his doctor about Marinol or megace.
He eats all kinds of things but won’t eat anything with sugar unless it’s fruit. He is on medicinal marijuana which he takes before bed. They just found a blood clot in his lung and he’s at the hospital now
Anrean’s suggestion about eating later in the day is good. Perhaps adding an appetite stimulant to the medical marijuana would help. Does he use mostly CBDs? If yes, I would consider adding THCs tinctures earlier in the day to try to stimulate the munchies. Talk to someone at the dispensary to get a better handle on that.
Blood clots suck! I hope his were not too painful. Are they starting him on Lovenox then? Sending hope that the clot dissolved quickly.
I found that eating later in the day and eating foods the were not spicy helped. Unfortunately, many cancer hospitals use a lot of spices because many cancer patients have lost their ability to taste. Have you tried Gatorade?
my husband had the same thing and eating very little because he felt sick all the time we was told about ginger, although he couldent take the ginger tea i got him the capsules an very slowly the nauseas stopped ,it might be worth giving it a go hope things improve for him soon make sure he takes plenty f fluids .god bless
Unfortunately he was losing weight because the cancer came back in his brain. He now needs full brain radiation. I want to know what that will do to him
