Electric Blanket

I may well be too late asking this but been using an electric blanket for years in the winter months. I have Primary Lymphoedema. The last 2 years developed severe bulbous painful varicose veins to right leg and now starting on left. GP won’t refer me due to the Lymphoedema.

I often get sharp pains, flutters. I have had DVT excluded. Could it be the blanket making things worse? I exercise but nothing is helping, I wear my hosiery but nothing helps. I am self managing as the Nurses have discharged me from the Lymph Clinic as my measurements are static now.

Any advice please?

Thank you 😊

Are you sleeping with the blanket switched on, or using it to warm the bed before you get in?

I am in the bed with it on for about 10 minutes or so. Once or twice I accidentally fell asleep with it on in the past.

Use it to warm the bed, but switch it off as you get in.

Agree with Perido - insist on a vascular referral. You might need different compression - they will be able to advise.

Maybe a referral to a vascular clinic would help?

I could ask, in the GP they don’t seem to like you having a voice to ask for referral. I recently changed GP so will see.
