Buttock compression

Hello fellow lymph warriors :)

I have stocking up to groin but I think my buttock started to swell too.

Can you recommend me what you use for buttock/hip compression?

My pelvis seems to be not much affected. Also my other leg seems fine. I'm a male so I don't want to have compression in certain area too ;)

Thanks!

Bicycle shorts!

Who has supplied your leg compression? Some companies can make bespoke garments.

I have Sigvaris. They have off the shelf pantyhose but I just hate the idea of wearing these (perhaps I will have to anyway, I don't have so much choice at my situation) But if there is something else I will try that first. I think I'll go with the bicycle shorts when it will go a little less warm. Now with 33C outside...

I thought the same too---but my wife tells me it's just a fat ***e. This continued hot weather is not helping much--the more I hydrate the more seems to leak from my legs!

Yes--I refer to it as my osmotic limb! I should mention that I have been on steroids for 5 years ; I am T2 diabetic (exacerbated by the steroid use); have polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR)- the reason for the steroids, and I am allergic to both penicillin and doxycyclin which would normally be used to fight infections. Add in that I am overweight and you have several reasons why my skin hasn't sealed properly in over 2 years!

So lymphorrhea. Do you use highly absorbent dressings? Bandages at night? What advice has your clinic given you, about control of lymphorrhea?

Atraumann/ Inadine (as required), absorbent pads (white--the blue NHS ones make it worse), 2 layers of K-Soft, tight woven bandages then yellow-stripe tubigrip. On good weeks dressed twice a week; in summer daily and on bad days every 12 hours. Most of the dressings are done by my wife (self-purchased) with occasional checks by nursing staff at the local GP. 6-monthly Doppler scans, 6 monthly reissue with full-leg hosiery (level 3 on left leg;level 2 on right) and Keraped post surgery shoes as required--left foot cannot fit into 6V width shoes.

Do you have ulceration? Inadine can exacerbate lymphorrhea unless there is an ulcer- Atrauman can keep the skin damp, adding to the maceration. Have they tried Mepitel? Does the skin dry if you just use the absorbent dressing alone?

We worked out by trial and error which caused what progression in my condition. Mepitel has been tried but became so heavy it created a rash at the edges of the dressing. I had a swab done recently as no evidence of heat/ feverish symptoms (ruling out cellulitis) and I had an excess of 3 different bacteria resent--cue GP and the issue of 2 types of antibiotics for 2 weeks.

I have bespoke Juzo ‘Bermuda shorts’ that I wear with my bespoke thigh garments. I no longer got sufficient compression from traditional biking shorts or other similar products and found bespoke shorts much better (though take a bit of getting used to). My LE nurse specialist measured me and the shorts are available on NHS prescription. In this Summer’s heat wave I struggled to wear my Juzo shorts as they are flat-knit (thick fabric) and I’m so very swollen up I struggle to get them on, so I’m wearing Solidea compression shorts which are off the shelf/website. I get mine from Pebble UK. They are class 1 gradient compression and tolerable in the heat. Unfortunately they’re not available on prescription.

As for your leaking through through your skin, it sounds like you may have Lymphorrhea. Are you under a LE clinic or see a Lymphoedema specialist nurse?

Thank you for advises.

Can I ask you for direct links for mentioned shorts?

As I have found few models and I'm not sure which are the best.

I’m afraid I have poor reception currently to search for the link.

On Pebble UK website look up Solidea Micromassage shorts. They have natural waist and high waiste, in black and beige x

I'm thinking of getting Solidea shorts to help with a bit of buttock swelling. In your experience is it best to follow the size chart? I measure about 3/4 of the way up in the medium size but wondered if I should go up a size to M/L as I don't want a tight waist or leg band. Tia.

Solidea comes up small in my experience. I order up a size
