Flat knit stockings

Hi everyone x i now have my first pair of flat knit stockings from Mediven,and tho initially dismayed as they felt so thick and hard, i am finding them ok to wear,and even maybe a little comfier than the circ knit ones (well,as much as these monstrosities CAN be considered comfy that is 😁😁! Haha!)

Only one real problem for me..they pinch my toes! I have no oedema in my feet,just my ankles,calves,knees,and my stockings are full length and on a waistband.

I am wondering if they also come in open toe format and when i order my second pair,can i ask for open toes or wd i have to speak to specialist nurse who measured me for Pair One.

Morning Stella I do get what you mean, ther is something strangely reassuring about flat knit once you get used to them :0) and yes they come in open toe, you will need to have this written on your prescription otherwise you will just get a repeat of what you have. They also come as thigh high stocking if you don't want/need the waistband. How do you find the waistband?

Thanks squinny x as for the waistband,i find it the lesser of two evils i think,as the idea of glueing stocking to keep them up doesn't appeal. The waistband - or waistbands if i dont put the stockings onto just one - is annoying as at times i get itchy under the velcro bit!

I now have a lumpyish outline, as fat is pushed up over the top of the stockings,which is annoying as ive lost 100 lbs over the last year and am at last slimmish,but this wd happen with thigh length ones too i guess X

Yes, open toe is an option, but your nurse prescriber will need to measure your foot length again, so that the foot piece reaches the base of your toes.

I wear knee length in open toe and find them ok, they all take getting used to but are nessacary

I wear the same Mediven stockings in a grade 4 and yes they do come in an open toe format. I have Primary Lymphoedema in both legs from my feet (Not my toes) right up to the tops of my thighs.

Hi I wear full length open toe,like yourself I have never had swelling in my foot.Have never had a waistband as never experienced any problems with garments staying up.I also think they are less restricting can't imagine a waistband being comfy I used to hate normal tights!!!My toe part is straight across have tried a slanting toe but this caused a problem with my small toe x

Linda i appreciate yr reply too..,sorry you have this horrid problem,but its nice to feel not alone! I am exactly the same as you,my little toe gets quite squashed by the slanting stockings..not all the time but enough to be a nuisance. Only on my left foot..my right foot is ok X

Hello everyone I'm pretty new to this site in responding to requests of information. I too have lymphedema in both my legs from the bottom of my toes to the top of my thighs and have difficulty getting in to my stockings, I use a glue to hold them up but I also purchased a pair of bicycle shorts that have a 20% compression off of Amazon and that seems to do the trick really nicely to keeping the stockings up. my therapist didn't suggest me getting a waistband or a pantyhose pair because of the difficulty of getting them up over the Waste I think there can be a vast improvement with design factors for people with lymphedema especially if you're a larger size body type such as I am. Forgive any typos I am voice texting this. Thought I just pass on the trick about the compression shorts. I live in the USA where I feel we are really behind in education about lymphedema.

Hi Boo,good idea re the cycling shorts! I have something similar but only cheap and not firm enough control in them .. I need to invest in a better pair to give me a more streamlined sihouette!

Hi, I wear flat knit thigh length stockings I found during the day they used to slip down behind the knee and became uncomfortable. What the clinic did when measuring the legs for stockings just made them a little tighter above the knee by adjusting the measurements. This works however, if I'm going to be out for any length of time I do you use the glue for reassurance.

I feel so comforted coming onto this forum,as in everyday life i dont know anyone with lymphie probs. Coming here makes me know i' m not alone and that makes it all feel a little easier to cope with xx
