hi, I can,t belive I,ve found a site for 'lymphoedema sufferers', I,ve had 'odema' ( water retention ) for 58 yrs brought on when I was pregnant ,( 6 times ) then all I got was 'take 'water tablets' been on them ever since, legs was,nt too bad but the years have taken their toll, then 18 months ago I had all my 'nodes' taken out in my left groin, and hence my fat leg, it took ages to find a 'Lymph' clinic, so off I trot there and was very disappointed, I got measured ? and was told I had nearly a 'stone' in weight in my leg, ( I felt like it) was told I would get 'tights' in post when they came they was too long (legs ) I got them on but felt as if I was incased in corrugated cardboard, I could,nt move, and it did,nt do my 'osteoarithis' in my right knee and hip any good, I also have 'bowens' disease, mainly on my legs, and these tights just pulled them to bits, so that was a waste of time,,,,i now wear support tights from Boots I get the medium size 30 ( or 20) deiner ,they help, I also exersize and massage my legs, like all some bad days....I wear loose trousers a lot, but one of my grnson,s got married a few weeks ago an I thought 'sod it' and I wore a knee length dress, an shoes with a small heel, an you ladies will know how good it feels just to dress up, even just for one day, an leg behaved itsseft,,,

so that's my tale ( some of it, sorry abt spelling here, I,m off to put my feet up, good luck to all, Bless you

If your hosiery isn't right, go back and go back again. Hosiery should be fitted by the person who measured you for it so they can see if there are any problems and try something else if it doesn't work out. All Lymphoedema Therapists know how hard it is to wear compression hosiery and want you to be as comfortable as possible, but still want it to do the job.

And bless you too Sheshere. You seem to be coping really well, but don't be afraid to ask anything here? We're all in the same boat to more or lesser extent, and sometimes it's nice to have a good moan, a natter, or find out anything at all about Lymphoedema. Don't worry about spelling - it's the last thing to worry about! x

I have just started using the compression stockings and I find them great. Maybe you should go back to your clinic and say that the tights weren't any good for you and see if they offer anything else.

Hi Sheshere Water pills do not help Lymphodema, that was what a specialist told me so, I don't take them anymore. You must have a clinic in your area. Just ask your practice nurse for details. That is how I got to my local clinic. They will measure your legs & go from there to order what is needed for your legs. You need a Macmillan centre. Hope you have one in your area.

Hi Delmar, I take the 'water tabs' cos I have 'oedema' water 'retension' brought on by pregnancy ( 1st one 58 yrs ago an 5 more), it was kept under control, until I got 'old' and they swelled up most of the time but went down over night, now I have the 'L.E.' having ALL the nodes taken out in my right groin,( I,m sure he did,nt have to take them ALL out).
