has anyone tried a compression machine? Keep reading about them and although expensive feel it would be worth it if they work.
compression machines: has anyone tried a compression... - LSN
compression machines
Hi Marymp
Yes they work!
Some work better than others!
Have a look at the Mego Afek website or compressiontherapyuk.com website and a nominal charge trial can be arranged so you will be able to determine whether or not it works for you!
Beware of lesser products that can cause cuffing!
Rgds
Yes, they work, but only if used to compliment everything else that you are doing, not as a replacement.
The best results I have experienced is when I have used one intensively, in hospital prior to surgery. From 7am to about 11 pm I was using one for 1 hour on/1 hour off and, taking into consideration that I was naturally resting for this period with my leg up, I have lost upwards of 4 kilos off of my leg. How much of this is purely down to the machine is not known, but what is known is that the compression cycle is amazingly relaxing if nothing else.
Yes
They are 'life savers' if you get the right one with the right service.
Ours is Lymphapants They may still offer a free trial. Other firm haddenham
were not nice to us- charged for a trial - and didn't work ( for us)
Cheers

The Therapist who treats me with MLD has a machine. She would put it on one leg whilst treating the other one, then swop over. However, has stopped uing it on me, as it doesn't ork for me. However, others say it works for them so do try it - and see if you can either get a free trial or find a therapist who uses machine.
You need a very lot of determination to keep up with the machine - Make sure you will keep it up otherwise it is a waste of money. I tried a few machines till I found one that I am happy with. Also if you suffer with high blood pressure check it is safe to use
Yes the machine works. But if the extremity is very large it will only bring them down so far and not to normal size. But it does help.
Had a trial from the lymph care clinic for two weeks, my arm went down by 3%, worth a trial before buying.
I have a pneumatic compression machine, as I have lymphedema in my right leg! It is well worth the money. I use it every night before bed (should use it more often but don't always have the time). It's not that big and I bring it whenever I travel. It really helps and I would strongly recommend it. I think it works better than compression stockings which I also wear. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to answer them if I can.
Did you have to get your lymphodema nurse to recommend it, mine says she is not in favour.
I'm in the USA. My Oncologist gave me a prescription. If you have a primary care physician, he/she could probably give you a prescription, as well. We don't have lymphedema nurses in the USA. Wish we did. It doesn't keep my leg from swelling, but significantly reduces the swelling for awhile and keeps it from getting worse. I wish you luck, and God bless!
Hi, i am a bit puzzled by what you wrote about the States as my brother's ex gives MLD to patients albeit privately. I could ask her for names of therapists in the area where you live, if you so wish.
Actually, we have physical therapists who specialize in the treatment of lymphedema, but my PCP must authorize a referral and I have to pay a portion of each visit. You can find any care if you can pay for it, but there is no lymphedema nurse assigned to us.
Now I understand. But even here, the kymohiedema nurses give us a free MLD for a limited time only.
Just to add to Doctor life's list compressiontherapyuk.com the UK retailers of Mego Afek's Lympha Press.
It is pretty obvious to me that there is even politics on here. So you can try the rest but if you want the best? The Lympha Press is it.
I know of people in the States who don't recommend the use of any of the machines. I was given, free of charge, the one that Haddenham supplies to my clinic, and tried also the LymphaPress, which charges for two weeks trial period. I think you should try the machines that are available in the UK, ask your nurse's opinion as well, and then decide. I think that having a machine at home allows one to have the affected limb massaged when no nurse is available, and even if they're not cheap, they are if compared of how much one has to pay privately for MLD.
Good luck!
I have a lympha press on trial at the moment have only had it since Thursday and wen I got re measured today my leg had gone down by 1.5-2cm the whole way up my leg! I am very impressed with it 👍🏼
