Negative Thoughts

How to control negative thoughts? Sometimes I just sit and start thinking only to eventually drive myself crazy. I try so hard to now think too hard or to think positive but sometimes I fail miserably. Can anyone relate.

Yes I can relate it’s like you try so hard to have a positive mindset but it always end up being negative.

I usually try and keep my mind occupied with other things in the beginning, until I actually have to deal with the negative thought. TV is my way of escaping, and occupying my mind with something else, and once I have had the time to relax and calm down - I deal with the negative thought by rationalising the situation. It's helpful to have a friend help through this process because sometimes a new set of eyes can see the situation really differently to me.
