Covid Vaccine
Hello chelsea2021 I'd discuss your concerns with your GP first. Here's a link about ITP and the COVID vaccines, please see:
The following video from last week April 8th discusses many of the key questions people have over ITP and the Covid-19 vaccines - youtu.be/QS0zsjsGUdM
Hi chelsea I had first jab awaiting 2nd beginning of May I was told it was fine to have by my specialist but as with any medication / vaccine there a small chance of side effects and everyone is different to how they react to it I luckily only had sore arm and felt a bit yukky for a day I had pfizler one
Sorry meant to say if possible get a blood test for up to 2 weeks after jab just to check platelets count as some it effects counts go up or down
Yes definitely worth getting a follow up blood test about 10 days after the jab to check platelet count level if you are concerned about your numbers. If your numbers have a recent history of being low it might be worth getting a blood test before having the vaccination to check platelet levels. If in doubt discuss it with your specialist before doing anything.
I had my vaccination - Pfizer - at the end of February with no side effects apart from a sore arm lasting a few days. Am awaiting my second one. I had asked my consultant if she would advise me to have the vaccination and the answer was unreservedly yes! She also advised me to have a blood test before the vaccine in case my levels were low, in which case it might be wise to wait until the levels were over 50. I would suggest you take the advice of your consultant as we are all different! Good luck.
I had Pfizer jab 4th February, no side effects just a sore arm. Hope your OK! I am on N plate.
Hi, I have had my first vaccine the Pfizer one. I’ve had ITP since I was about 2 yrs old, I’m now 50. I’ve had a relapse with it but now on Nplate which seems to be working. I had no bad side effects from the Pfizer and I’m booked in for my second next Monday. I have read that the second can make you feel bad but it isn’t putting me off. I can come back and let you know next week if that’s the case. See your consultant first if you like find out if you can have a choice and if so which one is advisable.
I’ve had itp 27 years (spleen destroys them) 10k-87k. I had PFizer 2nd shot 2 weeks ago. Minimal side effect if any. I’m having blood tests 9 weeks from shot 1 past 2. I have O blood type
I’m confused as well .. we don’t have Pfizer in our country but only astra Zeneca.. not sure if I have to take the shot or not..
I've had both jabs with no problems. Nicky
I had both jabs of Pfizer and just happened to have a doctors appointment a few weeks after the last jab and my platelets were amazing. I tend to get a bump in platelets after a vaccination. I don’t know if that is typical or if it’s just my auto immune idiosyncrasy. Either way I was pleased. I would definitely check with your hematologist before doing it though as I’m sure everyone is different.
Hi All,
I had both Moderna vaccines and thankfully my platelets have remained stable at 250,000. I was told on a PDSA zoom call that people with ITP should get Moderna or Pfizer as they are RNA vaccines. They said that J&J is not good for people with ITP because it is a vector vaccine.
Not related to vaccines but on curing ITP, I ended my 7 months (April 2017-Oct. 2017) of every 10 days ITP platelet crashing cycle after killing cell membrane walls of undetected organisms with 2 Rife Ultrasonic therapies. I want to help as many ITP people as I can get rid of their ITP too.
Undetected parasites, bacteria, fungus, etc was causing my ITP that started 2 weeks after I returned from Costa Rica in April 2017. I have not had a platelet crash since Oct 2017 (platelets of 1,000) after I was treated twice in September 2017 with Rife ultrasonic therapy. I also took a parasite destroying medicine at the recommendation of that homeopathic doctor in September 2017. I did also take some additional homeopathics.
Prior to my ITP ending in Oct. 2017, I was getting IVIG and dexamethasone every 10 days for platelet counts as low as 1,000. I was also on Promacta and Prednisone, etc. Interestingly when I convinced the doctors to put me on triple antibiotics in July 2017 my platelets stayed stable during the antibiotic therapy but then plummeted again when the antibiotic were done.
I believe some ITP is caused by antibodies that our bodies make against unidentified organisms that have made our bodies their cozy home. Then those antibodies destroy our platelets by mistakenly thinking the platelets are the bad foreign organisms. This may sound crazy but is it my journey.
I want to help as many people as possible so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Also, feel free to repost this so more people be will have this information.
