Covid vaccine

I have had ITP for approximately 12 years . I have had few symptoms other than some bruising and nose bleeds. I consider myself fortunate not to have to take medication. I get regular blood tests and my count has varied between 18 and 60. I did a lot of research into the possible effects of the covid vaccine on ITP and had my vaccination about 1 month ago. I had a blood test afterwards and my platelet count was 79. This is the highest it has been since my diagnosis of ITP. This might not be everyone’s experience but perhaps might encourage people not to assume it will have a negative effect.

Wow that’s encouraging! I’ve had ITP for 15yrs & diagnosed at 3000. I had all the regular treatments to raise my platelets, from Prednisone, Whinro, Decadron,Ruitaxin to Nplate. My counts would go up, but fall after about 2weeks. This went on for years, but in the last 4yrs I stopped all treatment & my platelets have been the highest they’ve ever been at 90,000! So I really want to get vaccinated, but concerned that my platelets would drop! But hearing your experience really gives me hope & courage to get my Vaccine...Thanks for your post!✨

Pleased to hear that as it is the first time I have posted on here . Good luck with your vaccination and I hope your platelets remain stable.

I have a vitamin regime, limited stress and begun walking 10 miles a week. My platelets are steady at 70k (after 27 Yrs of 10k-48k no rhyme or reason for surge and then steady) after two surgeries (both benign #grateful) . Just got Pfizer shot. I’m getting blood tests weekly. I’m O+/platelets diminished by enlarged spleen. Hope that helps.

Yay! Another encouraging experience! Your platelet journey is similar to mine, & helps me to feel more comfortable getting the vaccine. Thanks so much for your feedback & hope to be vaccinated soon!✨

Which vaccine did you get?

I had the AstraZeneca vaccine and felt unwell for about 2 days so was pleasantly surprised to find that my platelet count was higher than expected.

Thx for your input. I'm scheduled for my second shot this afternoon and was concerned with the side effects.

Thx for your input beady. Very comforting. I’ve been dealing with it for 20 years. I was worried that I might have a side effect after the second vaccine. This is very encouraging.

Hi All my platelets average 30-40 I had Covid early December and was ill for 19 days, I did a blood test 2 days before I got Covid and had a count of 37 I had another test 3 weeks after I got Covid and my count was 315. I then had a blood test 1month later (end January) and platelets were 38. I was called in for my 1st jab (Pfizer) end of February so had another blood test 2 days after jab it was 23 (lowest I have ever had) so doctor said have another test 2 days later it was 80. I have a blood test every month so next 1 will be end of march and will update then

So your platelets went up after getting covid ?? Which is good but strange as viruses kill blood cells normally I had covid back in March 2020 and platelets went from 70 before to 8 after and took months to get me back up with increase in my medication to where they were happy with me

I always find if I have a cold or feel unwell my platelets go up as my body attacks the illness and not my platelets, so I was shocked that they went down to 23
