ITP caused by Gardasil vaccine

Can anyone please tell me if they were diagnosed with ITP after receiving the Gardasil vaccination. I had a perfectly, physically fit son, and after 4 days of getting Gardasil starting having Petechiae and blood in his urine. At day 9 after Gardasil he was admitted to hospital with platelet count of 7. He has had 2 transfusions and still not able to produce platelets. Can someone help me know if they have had this and what they did to control ITP.

Hi lynn, how old is your son? I do not know if there is a link but my son has had Itp for a year (although some relief through the winter months last winter) Today the kids at school were having the flu vaccine a even though my sons platlets seem to be up at mo I chose not to have the vaccine in case it triggered a relapse!!

My son is 19 years old. I am also concerned about flu season and will not be getting the vaccine for the same reason. Besides the CDC admits it is difficult to know what strain of flu is coming each year when the pharmaceutical companies make the vaccines. Not worth the risk to me. Lots of hand washing and avoiding contact with anyone who seems remotely sick.

I am a 30 yr old female who recieved the gardasil shot some 12 years ago, I remember it vividly because it hurt and I had to go back. Recent lab work now shows I have low platelets that have been low for years, I also bruise very easily. I cant prove there is a link but there seems to be a trend.

I haven't had the Gardasil vaccine, but have had many many vaccines due to having my spleen out to help with my ITP. It has the total opposite effect on me. Since my ITP is an autoimmune response that causes my body to destroy my platelets, any type of vaccine or introduction of something new helps take the focus off of my platelets. My numbers actually go up after vaccines.

I don’t know if you still read these replies, but I stumbled across your post and wanted to reply.

In early 2009, I received 2/3 rounds of the gardisil vaccination. In November 2009, I started noticing petechiae all over my body. My mom took me to our family doctor, where he ran tests. After seeing my platelet count of 49,000, the doctor told my mom and I that I might have a blood disorder called ITP. We scheduled an appointment for three weeks away with a hematologist to have further testing done.

The very next day my mom and I went shopping. I leaned up against a railing at the mall as we waited on our food. One hour later as I was trying on clothes in the dressing room, I noticed a huge black bruise from where I had just leaned on the railing. My mom immediately called the doctor and he told us to go to the emergency room of our local children’s hospital. After being examined for what felt like hours, I was admitted to the hospital with a blood platelet count of 4,000. Within just 24 hours, my platelet count had dropped 45,000. I was officially diagnosed with ITP.

From there on, I would receive IVIG treatments every two weeks over a course of six months to try and keep my platelet counts up and stable. I was also put on steroids and tried outpatient treatments that were blackboxed over that six month period. I was closely monitored by doctors and had to report any headaches I was having. These headaches led to multiple CT and body scans to determine if I had any internal bleeding. I wasn’t able to do anything for six months. I was constantly tired and sick. I missed over 35 full days of school, due to my hospital stays and sick days. There were days when I couldn’t get out of bed, and there were days were my menstrual cycle was so bad that I couldn’t leave the house or I’d have to go back to hospital for another round of IVIG treatment.

After those six months were up, I was able to make the decision to have my spleen removed in June 2010. Once I had my spleen removed, my platelet counts were anywhere from 600,000 to 900,000 over a course of three months. Afterwards, my platelet counts dropped back down to normal. For many years, I had to take penicillin daily to prevent myself from getting sick and try to keep my immune system strong.

To this day when I get sick, I have to monitor my body temperature and blood count. If I have a fever that will not go down for more than 24 hours, I have to go to the hospital and get fluids. It’s been almost 10 years since I went through this, and it’s crazy to constantly read about other children and young adults who go through the horrible side effects of the gardisil vaccination.

Hi, my name is Emily and when I was 19 I had the Gardasil shot. It was May of 2018, and by August of the same year I was in the hospital dying.

I had a hemoglobin of 2 and a platelet count of 7000. I spent a week in the ICU and after they had confirmed I had nothing else since ITP is done by process of elimination they felt comfortable diagnosing me with ITP.

I'm 30 now and I still have ITP.

Hi, I see this is from a year ago, but my son was diagnosed with ITP a couple of months ago and I have been researching a lot about it. I have found links to ITP after vaccinations. Just today I was on two different websites that were for lawyers with information and that have sued after this has happened. Please check them out! There are many links to vaccines and these auto-immune diseases. I will not get my son vaccinated any longer. mctlawyers.com/vaccine-inju...

Yes my child got ITP because of this vaccination. The Brisbane Children Hospital confirmed others had also contracted ITP. This was 13 years ago. My child received an expensive plasma from the US and was cured of ITP
