zero platelet count: im diagnosed with... - ITP Support Assoc...
zero platelet count
When I was a zero, I had extensive bruising and also many large blood blisters in my mouth/tongue along with constant nose bleeds.
I've been down to zero before with bruises and petechiae all over my body. There was a few nose bleeds but not many all whilst I was on predinisone and IVIG transfusions. The blood probes have an error margin dependent on your clinic/hospital/lab.
Bruising is bleeding, how do you feel with a count of zero? My lowest count was 6K, I was externally irritable, fatigued, bruising like crazy, having difficulty thinking clearly and depressed. What are your hemoglobin/hematocrit counts?
Is zero ok? Not Emergency?
Hi rhezel, with this group you’re never alone. Bruising is bleeding, I’m surprised you don’t have active bleeding at zero, how are you feeling ? My lowest count was 6K with increased bruising, fatigue, extreme irritability and depression. I was on Rituxan infusions at the time and required weekly platelet transfusions. I don’t understand how you and others can function at zero. I’m currently on weekly blood draws with Nplate injections at 8mcg/kg to maintain my platelet count between 30 to 80K which allows me to have a fairy active productive life.
What is your treatment plan? Have you had IVIG or offered platelet transfusions? I would have demanded treatment but then I’m a nurse and we are difficult patients. Does your Hematologist know your platelets are zero? Please take care
im now at 2 , im working normally,, still taking prednisone,, thank you :0
Very common symptoms. I was at zero as well. pdsa.org has great information about your illness. Unfortunately, the treatments tend to be hurry up and wait to see if they are working. Just take one day at a time, and try to manage the highs/lows as best you can with the emotions. We are all here for yah!
thank you msuoconnch :),, im now at 2 ,, still working normally
This is my second time around with ITP. I had it 15 years ago, and I was able to get into remission with the help of danazol for 4 months. They don't use danazol as much anymore given the new options available. I have had this second ITP trip since early December 2017. I am similar to you in that I functioned normally at 0 or any number for that matter, so we are lucky. The best advice that I can give you is to take control of your health when meeting with your doctors. Ask a thousand questions, and you make the decisions. There is a common protocol of meds that most hemo's use, but if that doesn't work, push on. My hemo is pushing for a splenectomy but I want to exhaust every option before I go there. Good luck, and ask away.
Prednisolone sent my platelets down to zero, pre a minor operation, so it was discontinued quickly. I have only every had a nosebleed once during the 15 years I have had ITP but bruises come and go, nothing alarming. My platelets range from 25-50 but this year have moved up to 74, i am not on any medication for ITP.
My little boys platelets were at 9. No bleeding. He just had bruises and petetchia, he was also very fatigued. He was yawning all the time..but because he was not bleeding they didn't want to start any treatment. His platelets went from 9 on a Monday to 139 (could of been 129) on Thursday. Two weeks later we are at 279. He was sick with tonsillitis and a cold but has recovered from that. When I found out his platelets were 9, I found a detox which included all ingredients everyone says brings platelets up. I've tried aloe juice and detox, this was my last ditch effort before treatment. If his platelets didn't go up after he was sick, treatment was on the table but because there was no bleeding they would have to do bone marrow testing first to rule out leukemia. I was so depressed, his platelets only went down. I'm not sure if his platelets went up from after being sick or the detox. But I feel like I detoxed his body, cleansed it clean and this is why he has the rise.
Get plenty of rest, drink lots of orange juice and I'm praying your platelets are on the rise.
When my platelets have fallen below 15-20, my doctor always advises against heavy activity and/or physical sports including driving, where a fall could occur...are you still on prednisone from November?
