I am sooooo scared of this being leukemia.all my other blood counts are normal. I see a hemotologist in 2 days. I'm so worried. Any insight?

Platelet count of 4
Yes that is certainly very low platelets.
But without any other information it is difficult to comment.
For any leukaemia diagnosis we need lymphocyte counts, preferably the absolute lymphocyte count, as well as mutation tests and FISH tests.
If on a second test it is confirmed that ALL other blood tests are normal then Leukaemia is unlikely.
There are also 20+ different types of leukaemia..
However there is good news, in that many of us with leukaemia have never had to have any treatment even after a ten year period.. Plus in the last few years there have been massive increases in the treatments with many new non-chemotherapy drugs which are just a simple pill to take three times a day.
So while I can understand your worries, there is also much hope for a healthy future.
You would have other results out of line if it was something else.
Hi...
My platelet count has been zero on two occasions. I only have ITP... nothing more serious. Hopefully your result will be the same xx
thank you!!! You are an angel 😇 I got results saying my count was up to 97 after first round of steroids. Now more tests and waiting 😐 but feeling more positive
Good news... but don't dispair if your count goes up then back down... that seems to be a common reaction with steroid treatment.
There are other drugs available that will get your platelets back to a normal level.
Read the stories and experience of people on this site... tons of information and insite to help you cope xx
that's what I understand😐 I have been off the steroids for two days now. I feel woozy and drained. I'm not sure if its anxiety or the steroids.
Probably the steriod withdrawal... it can feel like you have ran into a brick wall. You might feel like that for a few days... try and rest as much as you can... xx
How long have you been dealing with Itp Pollyangel?
Hi
I had my first episode February 2015 and my immune system stopped destroying platelets after 4 months of treatment.
Unfortunately it returned January 2016 and I'm still getting treatment for yo yo platelets... but I'm at a level now where I'm back at work. I'm only on Revolade... my count on Friday was 85... my Consultant thinks my ITP has been triggered by a virus... I'm fortunate... my health is good and Im learning to manage ITP.
wow! So you are fairly new to this too. I'm hoping to hear from the Hematologist tomorrow. I have to go for an ultrasound. Today I feel great! The wooziness is gone! Woozy is my incredibly accurate medical terminology!
Woozy... good a word as any... lol...
Good luck with your ultra sound x
you where right! So thanks for the heads up. My platelets dropped right back down after steroids. However all my tests and ultrasound are good so I can pretty much rule out cancer. I can't thank you enough for answering me. Don't deal well with the waiting and wondering. Hearing from people who have been there gave me a huge amount of comfort that I wasn't getting from friends who would just say"it will be fine". I love them and they mean well but what else could they say? I feel like I can breathe again💜
Great news about your scans..
ITP is a rollercoaster journey... wee platelets are up and down... doctors can't really tell you why... naturally you worry...
I didn't find this site until this summer... I was so relieved to find out I wasn't a freak... lol...
Don't get hung up on platelet counts... it starts to drive you crazy... lol... especially if they are up and down...
Concentrate on how you feel... rest when your body tells you to... enjoy the days you feel great... xx
I also only have ITP and my platelet count has been in single figures several times. My other bloods were all normal. I was tested for blood cancers but the tests were negative. Try not to worry. If you have ITP there are many treatment options to keep you safe and well.
I was on 80mg of steroids to start with decreased over 6 months and they made me feel very dizzy. I had ITP from July last year count was 7, no meds now my count down slightly but still very good just over 100. Back for blood test next month 🙏 All will be ok.
Keep positive as it does help, there are loads of people on here that have been managing with it for 20 years n more and are fine, they give good advice.
Hope you get good news tomorrow.
Take care Lin
