My daughter (6.5years) is diagnosed with with ITP, the platelet count dropped to 8000, doctor suggested IVIG as 2 mg per kg, the count slowly increased from 8000...40000...160000 and then 423000 within 10 days. however when we did test after 40day, it got dropped to 70000, what should we do now. I am worried a lot, she doing good in terms of food and active..., I got to know, ivig lasts 3-6 weeks, now I understand, this count was increased with IVIG but dropped again, do we have any specific food (pomegranate, papaya leaves...which supports in increase in the count? please suggest.

I received IVIG when my platelets dropped to 10,000 and increased to 24,000 for 3 days then dropped to less than 10,000. Young children are generally diagnosed with ITP after a serious bacterial or viral infection and respond well to treatment with steroids. While a well balanced diet is important for physical and emotional wellbeing; there NO foods that will increase platelet counts. There are many on this site praise the value of papaya leaf juice, there is NO scientific evidence that papaya juice will increase your child’s platelets. This site has a great educational section, check it out. Learn as much as you can about our disease and treatment options.
I have was diagnosed in early 1990’s but refused treatment with steroids preferring to wait until AMGEN developed a platelet stimulating factor (Nplate), which was approved in 2008. I started on weekly Nplate injections in 2010 to maintain my counts between 30,000 to 80,000 which allows me to live a fairly active life and will have to do until there is a cure. Your child is young and a cure is possible in herlifetime. Be well Georgia
IVIG is a rescue remedy and mormally only lasts a fortnight or a month if you really respond to it. At 6.5 yrs ITP will with luck go away as fast as it came.
This is exactly what my son went through at age 12,just give her a healthy diet rich in greens and with time she will come out of it.Fresh food and fruits,Just be patient and let your kid lead a normal life.
