ITP and the sun

Was told by a doctor that we should be careful of the sun if we have ITP, and not to spend to much time outside in the sun. I'm confused as I didn't think it would hurt me??

I was told to keep out of the sun - not because of ITP but because of the medication i.e. cyclosporine.

I was told to get some sun in order to keep the vitamin D level up. Also the hospital I attend are now doing vitamin D blood tests on a regular basis. Some think there's a link between low D and autoiimmune disorders.

Like mags I was told to keep out of the sun because of the MMF medication and use a sun cream of at least SPF50. But I also need to take vitaminD.

The side effects of MMF state you are susceptible to skin cancer if in the sun - compelling argument for keeping covered up or smothered in sun cream. I take the view that if I go outside, I do not stay too long in the sun. You cannot avoid going outside but you can be mindful of not burning and being aware of any moles on your skin. Just be sensible and take precautions.
