Husband diagnosed w/ ITP

My husband was recently diagnosed with ITP with a count of 37. He was put on a high dose of prednisone which seemed to help (except for the side effects) We got a hold of some papaya leaves and juiced them (in a wheat grass type of juicer) and his platelets are now at 186! Praise God. This and much prayer!

We have not tried any capsules, only the fresh leaves that we juiced. I do think some people have had success with the extract (liquid form).

He is tapering down the steroids but even on the highest dose he only got up to 140.

I juiced the papaya leaves (terrible smelling thick nasty juice :) and he had 1.5 tablespoons, 2 times per day. Counts the following week were 165 and this week was 186.

I read about a study they did w/ papaya leaf juice and mice that it affected the two genes that control the production of platelets. One gene measured 15x the activity than the mice in the control group and the other gene measured 13.4x the activity. The effects also lasted 21 days, so we are expecting another jump next week.

He got up to 140,000 with the prednisone, which is good, but doing even better after the papaya leaf juice

How much pred? That might be the bigger spike and not the papaya leaves. I hope the papaya helps, but you need to do some trial and error at this point. And go with God!

The prednisone got him at about 140 and holding. After 5 days on the papaya leaf juice, the following week count was 164 and the week after was 186. I read that it stimulates the two genes that are responsible for platelet production and continues to work for 21 days so we expect it to keep rising!

I rinsed and dried fresh papaya leaves. Cut out the stems and large veins. Then I put the leaves through a wheat grass juicer. Very little juice comes from these leaves. I juiced twice- each time I made enough for 2.5 days.

Then I measured 25ml (approx 1.5 tablespoons) into separate cups and covered them and refrigerated them. He would drink one in the morning and one in the evening. After drinking he would put water in the cup to get the residue stuck in the cup and drink the water.

It was more simple than I actually thought it would be.

Making green smoothie using papaya, mango ginger and kale with orange or orange and mango juice. Husbands platelets went from 33 to 76 then 92... hadn’t been above 40 for about 12 years till tried smoothies. Was sceptical if they’d help but thought nothing to loose and they certainly wouldn’t do any arm...both surprised and happy about results!!

I've been on prednisone many times and the side effects are terrible and some permanent. I've been taking Papaya Leaf extract for 6 months and I'm still on remission, my last count was 249. I'm hesitant to say that the Papaya Leaf extract is working until some more time has passed. In your husbands case I'm not sure what to say. Was he still on prednisone when he started taking the Papaya? How high where his platelets when he started taking it?

I have high hopes with the Papaya Leaf Extract, but this illness is so complicated that I'm taking a wait and see approach. I talked to my doctor about it and he said it couldn't hurt taking it. Best of luck.

Can you send a link to the extract? Thank you x

That’s great! I believe the extract that you buy is much more pleasant tasting than the leaves! He was still on prednisone when we did the papaya leaves but on a much lower dose. He is almost finished with the prednisone- maybe 2 more weeks of tapering. I think in the future we would avoid the prednisone completely and try a more natural route first.

How do you know it was not the prednisone (proven to increase platelet count), and your unproven believe that papaya juice cause the increase??? Do you really think the pharmacital companies would not have turned papaya juice into a “DRUG” and made millions of dollars????

This site has an excellent educational section, please check it out and learn as much as you can about our disease and treatment options....papaya juice has been debunked.

Was your husband diagnosed with ITP after a serious bacterial/viral/parasite infection which overwhelmed his immune system and turned it on it’s self? I and many others were diagnosed after serious infection. Georgia

Pharmaceutical companies cannot patent a natural plant. I am sure if they could, they would! There have been many natural, God-given remedies that the pharmaceutical companies have studied and then have patented a synthetic copy (with side effects). Take Monolaurin for example. It is a natural anti-viral and the drug companies have studied how it works to make anti-virals such as Valtrex. There are drugs now for ITP which stimulate the two genes that make platelets and that is exactly what the papaya leaf juice does. See proven studies below- by the way, my husband is off the prednisone and counts continue to raise ... he is now at 205! Praise God!
