Severe brain injury experiences?

My father had a fall on 7th March and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, he was put in a medically induced coma and had brain surgery to remove the subdural hematoma. He is in intensive care and we are in the early days of his potential recovery.

I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences of comas and brain injury in general.

Hi @Daughter1995

I had hypoxia amongst other things. My wife was warned that if I ever woke up, I might well be brain damaged. Now I don’t know about you but I have a very specific image in my head of someone who is brain damaged and it’s not very nice.

I do have cognitive limitations - very poor short term memory, etc and a different thought process. Everyone is different & the brain can repair in some cases. I don’t believe mine has improved greatly - but it has some, especially when it comes to concentration.

There is a pdf on brain injury on this link

I have been told that IF my dad wakes up, he WILL have severe brain damage. We will obviously embrace and support him with his physical and mental limitations, although our main concern now is that we are just desperate for him to wake up.

Thank you for sharing my that resource and thank you for sharing your experience with me ☺️
