One step forward, two steps back.

I am so disheartened! My dad had a really bad infection the past two weeks. He's just gotten over it really turned a corner had a trachy fitted and we've been told he has ANOTHER infection! 😭 I am so drained how long will this continue, he is now on day 30 on the vent, continuous infections, really doing well then this happens. They've been so positive saying he was on the right path now this. He spent a full week proned last week and now we are back to square one! Please if anyone has experienced this give me some guidance 🙏

I’m sorry you are going through this agony, I don’t want to give you false hope but I came through numerous infections whilst in ICU - forgetting what I came in with - firstly week 2 I got Severe ARDS, hypoxia, week 6 they confirm which leukaemia I had, then I picked up CMV, VRE, EBV, HHV6, MSSA & glandular fever. I had epileptic like fits because I was allergic to one of the antivirals - I had been blue lighted into hospital 8weeks earlier with strep A, avian flu, double pneumonia, sepsis, multiple organ failure & septic shock. 2 days before all this I was skiing

My dad was pretty similar , up and down then once tracky fitted had a period of infections . It’s a long hard process and I was desperate for them to tell me they had started the weaning process .

In the end of I stoped asking about peep numbers and oxygen levels I became fixated and just tried to take the tiny positives .

I really know how your feeling and every call is dreaded and the anxiety overtakes your whole day .

While your dads still fighting there is hope and reading through all these stories there is a lot of hope . My dad did 73 days on the ventilator and within a week of being off the ventilator was walking with a frame and in a ward he was so determined to get home to his family .

Am

Praying for a similar outcome for your dad . Covid really is evil and the fact there are no face to face visits makes it harder to advocate for you loved ones . Xxx

You are so right! The nurses have even said that don't get fixated on numbers! He has stuff lungs? Don't know if your dad suffered that I don't thinks it's cause scaring yet but said that ends up happening.

They are treating his infection with some different antibiotics, they said he can't get rid of his bad chest causing him to over breath, and can't get him off sedation he gets really agitated so trying to find something different that works

Wow to your dad what a soldier! That's just amazing to hear 🙏

Yes dads lungs where affected he’s been left with some scarring . He had a collapsed lung at one stage and had a chest drain in to drain some fluid only then did we see any real improvement in his condition as he was very static for five weeks .

His kidneys had failed but during the 6th week they recovered and he has no lasting damage . He thankfully doesn’t Remember any of this . It’s worse for the family’s during this stage .

Try just take any little positive , thankfully the doctors know a little more than they did during the first wave xx

Oh gosh what a thing to go through! My dad transferred hospital and the 1st one didn't ask him about video calling so can't even see him via vid.

I'm going to stay strong, I've got two little ones wanting grandad back, thanks for the words of advice. X

Hi, my grandpa is in the same position as your dad was. How did the kidneys recover, was he put on dialysis or anything. My grandpa has fluid building up as kidneys are no longer working and they are telling us they can't do anything. They've tried diuretics but no luck.
