Bad news today my husband is back on the ventilator sedated and on 50% he has got an infection that is growing in his body which they think in the chest and they are giving him strong antibiotic to prevent this going into his bloodstream. I am so discouraged.
Sedated and back on ventilator: Bad news today my... - ICUsteps
Sedated and back on ventilator
I’m sorry to read this - I picked up a really nasty chest infection 2 weeks ago. 10 days of broad spectrum IV antibiotics worked on me - my immune system is similarly compromised as your husband. Hope you get more reassuring news soon.
Oh dear!
My Dad had multiple episodes of sepsis. He required antibiotics (meropenem, Vancomycin. coamoxmiclav).
He was also on antifungals-have they explored this? Ensure they rule out Aspergillus and Candidiasis-quite common in icu patients. They can try strong empirical anti fungals (as it’s hard to culture fungus with all the antibiotics they are on ?
Ask for the crp, white cell count and request they do a procalcitonin.
Good bless you and your husband 🙏🏽
I'm so sorry to be reading this, you have had an horrendous time . Hope you get some reassurance soon. Sending love and prayers to you .
Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and he starts to take steps in the right direction again.
Don't lose hope, he just needs time to recover from this horrid chest infection🙏🏽💜
Please don't give up hope!
Similar happened to me. They put me on an antibiotic drip and a paracetamol drip and I got through it.
Best wishes.
Don’t get discouraged, he will get there. The same thing is happening with my boyfriend at the moment, last couple of days he has a fever cough and can’t even open his eyes. They said it’s quite common to catch infections especially as they are trying to get stronger and get really tired! Another setback that I am sure they will both get through. Positive thinking only 🤞🏻
Hi. Nothing can take away your worry. my very bets wishes to you both and your families
My cousin came off the ventilator but a few days later developed pneumonia and an unstable heart rate. He was put back on the ventilator and eventually got a Trach. He made it through all that and was just transferred to a rehab hospital on Tuesday.
Your husband is a fighter! xx Best wishes.
i’m so so sorry to hear this, but please don’t be discouraged! i picked up pneumonia twice throughout my ICU stay, my temperature rocketed to the point where i was covered from head to toe in ice packs on a constant rotation & prescribed 4/5 IV antibiotics to fight it. whilst it was rough, it was beat-able & there is every faith your husband will beat this too! sending you love xxx
My Dad had multiple infections while he was sedated over a 7 week period and he fought off every one. I wish for good news for you x
Thank you x
My Dad didn't have covid, he was in ICU for 7.5 weeks after a heart op at the start of this year but his journey sounds similar to your husband. He had a trachy, was largely sedated (or delirious), he had infection after infection, collapsed lung, kidney failure. We were told to expect the worst but he fought it and is now home. Don't give up hope xx
