My son was admitted to I C U with severe acute pancreatitis. He was on a ventilator and had lung failure. Fortunately he survived. Now at home recovering. Often he is either hot or cold and perspires profusely during the night. Could anyone tell me of any similar experiences please

Has he picked up another infection? It might be worth mentioning it to his medical team
Hi
I was in hospital from December through to mid March ‘20 nearly 2 months of which was sedated and ventilated. Perspiring profusely isn’t the word for it. I don’t wear pyjama’s or anything but the bed would be absolutely wet during the night it just dripped off me and by morning crispy dry!!!! I found lying on a beach towel or bath sheet really helpful and although wet was much more comfortable. Not only that if you want you can throw it off during the night and start again. It’s just coming up to December and a week doesn’t go by without any sweating and this tends to be upper body only and not as bad.
If he doesn’t wear pyjamas please don’t insist that he does as he needs to be comfortable.
I presume there is an age difference I’m 72 but I understand this is fairly normal what ever that means.
My husband is currently in hospital recovering from pancreatitis. Whenever he goes hot and cold it is usually a sign of infection so as Sepsur said, it is probably best to get checked out just incase.
I had the same (specifically acute necrotising pancreatitis), and also had the fever symptoms you describe - usually it was an infection and I would need antibiotics or even a drain sometimes. Definitely worth getting checked out.
Seconday to that though, I DID struggle with temperature stability for a year or two or so after ICU. Very different though - no perspiring, I just didn't seem able to regulate it like before. I'm pretty much back to normal now (8 years later).
