Hello, I wrote a few weeks ago about my partner, who was put in an induced coma after a chest infection and sepsis. If there is a God - and I have prayed to him constantly to give him strength, to give the medical staff vision and hope - I will be forever grateful. Les has survived Ecmo, a rare bone marrow infection, peritonitis and abdominal surgery which the doctors did not expect him to survive, multi organ failure, possible brain damage from lack of oxygen, four weeks in an induced coma . Over and over again he has fought like a lion to survive. A week on Friday he was brought back to our local hospital from Royal Brompton hospital, on Sunday he had a successful traechostomy, he has been cleared of the sepsis, has started the long road of physiotherapy to start building his strength and fight critical care weakness, they have weaned him off the kidney filter. He is now on a traechostomy mask 12 hours a day.
I never gave much thought to the power of prayer, but I do now. The medical staff at Royal Brompton are angels in scrubs, I have never come across a team of people like this. They kept telling me they were just doing their job. Oh but it has been so much more than that. Their utter dedication, strength, vision, honesty, continued fight against what seemed the impossible. I shall never forget them and yes, they will be in my prayers for ever.
To all those who are struggling as patients or loved ones, keep fighting, never lose hope, each small victory, however small is a step towards healing. You are all in my prayers
