Hi all,

Hope you ok. My friend had a cough for couple of days, he went to see his doctor, she's sent him to a&e. He was admitted with pneumonia and chest infection, he couldn't breathe and the next day he has been put in coma. He was in coma and ventilation for about a week having a multiple organ failure.. His kidneys are failing, his liver is failing, his heart is failing and his lungs.. They say it's because of thyroid storm.. After two weeks doctors decided to wake him up from coma as he felt little bit better. He was awake for about another week, he has recognised me, he made an eye contact answering the questions 'yes or no'... They did trachy to take tube out.. Until.. yesterday night they had to put him on ventilation again and on the high medication as he has chest infection and sepsis and the doctors say he is very very ill. Still multiple organ failure, his liver is really bad, bilirubin is very very high.. His skin is all yellow..

I don't know what to do.. 😔😔😔

I am so sorry to hear your friend has had this setback. There are people on this site who have experienced induced coma and sepsis. My younger brother was one of them. This is a rollercoaster - for every positive there can be setbacks and backward steps and new infections. It is very hard for you and your friend who is suffering. There is always hope as people can and do recover. Please reassure your friend when you visit by talking as even though he or she can’t respond they may be able to hear you and your presence and voice will be a comfort. Thinking of you and your friend. I hope they improve with the treatment for the infections.

I did go to see my friend today. I've spoken to the nurse who said that his body is shutting down, he is still on medication but the say we should say goodbye to him.. I did, but I still have a hope.

I am devastated.. It's soooo hard.

I’m soo sorry let’s just hope and pray for his speed recovery. That’s what happens to my husband he got sick @ the ICU for 3 weeks and pass away for multi organ failure I don’t understand and it hurts me soo much.

Sorry for your loss.I dont understand why people placed into an induced coma suffer multiple organ failure. It is odd that it seems to happen. Why when a person had a slight breathing issue did they then have multiorgan failure

And

End up being unable to move from the neck down.

Research required i feel.

That is a truly awful place to be for you & your friend. He is in the best place to have a chance of pulling through, Critical care treatment has improved such much over the last few years that there are many of us on this forum who have survived illnesses that would have killed us. Best wishes

Thanks Sepsur. Even if his body started to shutting down, does he have any chances to make it. 😭

I was in a coma for 57 days, I had flu, double pneumonia, acute strep A infection, Sepsis, kidney failure, heart failure, respiratory failure. I contracted severe ARDS, MSSA, VRE, CMV & glandular fever ( all potentially deadly for someone as ill as I was) - they also diagnosed a type of leukaemia- they just weren’t sure which one at the time ( treatment for this was impossible) . My family were told on several occasions that i wouldn’t survive the night.

When it looked like I’d pull through, my wife was told ‘ I’d probably be brain damaged and it would be a miracle if I regained all my faculties.

DESPITE -all this - 3yrs on I live a normal life.

Thank you for sharing your story, I am glad that you are doing very well. I still hope and pray that it will also happen to my friend, the nurses say that he has not have a good prognosis at all.. They do not know of he's going to make it through this night. He doesn't even pee anymore..

No.. that’s kidney failure, they can put him on dialysis. I was on it for 7 wks

He is on dialysis for two weeks now. Well, let's see. There is a little bit of hope. We were so happy when he woke up and understood what we were asking him for.. We thought he'll get better now. And this sepsis came ruined everything. Anyway, how are you doing now? After all this time? If you don't mind me asking
