I just made an appointment at the Lupus Center to see one of Professor Graham's team. Does anyone know of a hotel centrally located to the lupus center and the sights in London. We are coming from the USA and have never been to London. Thanks desigher16

Does anyone know of a nice hotel by the lupus center?
The London Bridge Hotel is just a short walk from the hospital. If you look arounyou can usually get it for much less than the standard tariff. The hospital is by the river very close to the Tower of London and The Tower bridge. You can get a boat up to the houses of parliyament. The London Eye The Tate gallery and The Borough market are all nearby.
Yes, I booked the London Bridge online from Australia, sight unseen. I stayed for the obligatory week between appointments in May 2010. While being renovated, I'm sure is right now. Price was just right for me- with good TV, heating, close tobathroom. Actually walked twice to the Hospital- and London Eye etc -easy walking- no rain those days. Kim could not help early online.
Hi designer16.
I don't know about hotels near the London Lupus Centre but a call to Kim, who is in charge of the bookings for Prof's team, may help, she is great and very helpful.
As Ann said, there are lots of things to see near the London Lupus Centre. The building, St Olaf House, itself is interesting. It is an Art Deco building built as the headquarters of the Hays Wharf Company between 1928 & 1932 by the architect Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel (1887-1959). Here is a link to his wiki page, St. Olaf House is shown on there.

He was an architect, writer and composer. On the river elevation of the building is a wonderful gilded artwork called 'The chain of distribution' it can be seen from London Bridge but is best seen from a boat.
Also, just south of the railway station is 'The Shard', the new building that is the tallest in Europe, I believe.
When is your appointment? I am seeing Prof Hughes on 19th March.
Best wishes.
Dave
I'm sure that once the plane gets on he ground you'll have a super time. The food is great, the people are friendly and helpful, and the public transportation , ( at least to this West Virginian,) is incredible. I have never tried them, but a friend recently introduced me to " trip key," which is a international booking agency whereby one may rent a private condo or apt. It It might save cash if one cooks for one self, but given cooking necessities, is probably best used for extended stays.
Have fun and I'm sure you'll get great medical advice!

( let us stateside Hughies know how it goes for those of us who may one day need to seek help from the APLS guru.)
I work for a Company based in the City of London and we have many visitors from the USA who either prefer to stay in the City or its environs or the West End(Oxford Street/Picadilly/Park Lane). The good news for you is that the Lupus Centre is on the doorstep of London Bridge Tube station(Northern and Jubilee lines)so really any part of London for your hotel means that you should have easy access to the hospital. The key question is how much your budget extends to as there is so much choice.
There is a cluster of hotels around Tower Bridge tube station (itself offering proximity to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge and a pleasant stroll to the Lupus Centre either through the City(worth a visit for the Monument and many tiny alleyways and streets) and across London Bridge with its views of London(St Paul's etc) or across Tower Bridge and along the South side of the river. There is a handy budget Travelodge near Aldgate as an alternative. The West End of course with easy access to theatres shows and cinemas etc is littered with hotels, most near Tube stations. If you need any further details let me know.
There is also a Premier Inn right next door to the Anchor Pub at 34 Park St, Southwark, London SE1 9EF. This is only a short walk from the London Bridge Hospital's Lupus Unit.
Hi. It might be worth giving Gasiot Lodge a call, they are St Thomas's Hospital accomodation. They have rooms available for patients that travel to the hospital that need to stay over its £55 - £65 per room per night and is literally opposite big ben! If you explain that you are seeing Prof Hughes they might allow you to stay there. The accommodation is very basic, similar to student flats but I have stayed there twice and never had a problem. Will be going again this week!
There is a free shutle bus from St Thomas's to Guys hospital and London Bridge hospital an St Olaf House is just a short walk away. Or it will cost around £7 in a taxi.
If you google 'st thomas accommodation' the number will come up
