Appendectomy recovery with APS

Hi there

I've had APS since 1999, well that's when it was first diagnosed in any case.

Three weeks ago I had surgery for appendicitis and I can't seem to get back on my feet. I feel okay but I keep getting this overwhelming fatigue which makes it hard to get up in the mornings and then I have to nap during the day. I work full time usually so I'm trying to stay awake long enough to be able to manage going back to work. Does anyone know if the fatigue is common or does it take longer to recover from surgery when you have this syndrome?

Thanks in advance.

Trai

Hi there, in my opinion it does take longer to recover from surgery and indeed infection and virus. I really hope you get better soon. M x

Hi Trai

I was diagnosed with APS in 2002.

I had cardiac bypass surgery in July 2007 and I was very week and poorly for a long time afterwards. I have been a lifelong cyclist and I was able to start gentle rides again in September 2007, building up to a 105 mile ride in may 2008. However, I still get periods off extreme tiredness, even now, and am having lots of 'funny turns' that are currently being investigated.

Best wishes.

Dave

My theory? Anything which gives a strong kick to the autoimmune system will increase fatigue until such time as the immune system decides potential threats are over and it chooses to stand down. You just have to wait it out.

Good luck.

It takes me so long to recover from any little medical thing. I try to be very careful to not injure myself. In December I severely sprained my ankle. It took me forever to recover. I blame it on the coumadin and the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.

My greatest sympathy to you, you know to me it does sound like you have had a stroke, did you have a MRI of the brain?. I have such an abnormal brain scan they cannot understand it!!!!

I hope you feel better soon.

Trai,

I had the excatly the same thing!!

I had my appendix out and the wound became hypersensative and i became extremly fatigued and it was caused by the APS the only way i found i got out of it was high dose pain killers and thinning mny blood more seamed to alliviate the issue.

I hope you feel better soon

Paddy
