I'm just wondering because my dad's keeping getting these nose bleeds and it's just not stopping. He's just had an operation to cut the artery and doc said that will be the end of nose bleeds. Well it's not. He's got what looks like clots coming out of his nose. So I've said maybe mention me with APS and he said "no I wouldn't have the same as you, whats nosebleeds got to do with APS" The more I learn about aps and what it can do I'm not sure. They just can't seem to sort this problem out. I'm just worried it may run in the family.
Is APS hereditary?: I'm just wondering... - Hughes Syndrome A...
Is APS hereditary?
APS isn't passed down directly from parents to children in the same way as other conditions, such as haemophilia and sickle cell anaemia. But having a family member with antiphospholipid antibodies increases the chance of your immune system also producing them.
APS or Hughes Syndrome is named after Dr Graham Hughes, one of the top specialists in SLE. It was his discovery that has led to his name associated with APS.
With good wishes,

I won’t be around for the next couple of days, so please don’t think I’m ignoring you!
Hi there,
I too have APS, however, I was also later diagnosed with a form of Leiden V (also a clotting condition) which is genetic. This is hereditary and all members of my family underwent testing for the condition. Might be worth something to rule out…
In my family a lot are effected in many days and also with overlapping autoimmune conditions, it is a good idea to flag it up regarding your Dad just to rule it out if it is worrying you and him. MaryF
