Looking for answers.

Hi, I live in the UK and last week had a routine blood test which showed my Creatinine level was 92 (marker 40-84) my Doctor seemed concerned an asked me to do another blood test for full kidney function. I had a message left today to say satisfactory bloods and no further tests. However when I rang back the receptionist said Creatinine still over the high marker at 93! Doctor on hols now so can't spk to her, but I wondered if anyone could shed light on this for me? Should I be worried or not??

Only your own doctor can give you the answers. This is one blood test among other necessary tests, such as protein in the urine and urinalysis etc. There are other blood tests which are needed. What about your blood pressure?

I understand you may be feeling very anxious about your kidneys, but I would make an appointment to see your doctor after the Xmas holidays so s/he can explain what this really means.

There can be all kinds of reasons for this slight elevation eg dehydration or a UTI. Make sure you are drinking lots of water as you can dehydrate without feeling thirsty! You can make sure you don't eat too much sodium/salt or processed foods which are high in salt.

I am not a medical doctor and I stress you cannot find the answers anywhere other than your own doctor.

I am worried you will be worrying and not enjoy your Xmas! If there is another doctor available, go and see them!

If not, try and relax, drink lots of water and avoid salt!

Thank you Ros. I am going to spk to another Doctor tomorrow to try and calm my mind for Xmas. All other results were fine including my B.P. Which has always been great. I was taking Naproxen on and off for a ankle injury, and my Doctor did think this may have caused it. I have stopped them three weeks ago, and will do as you say. Water and good healthy living!

NSAIDs can be a culprit! If everything else is OK, which it is, try and relax else your BP will rise!

I have had creatinine levels of 99 and many times had results above the higher range figure of 84 and I'm still here, alive and kicking, so please don't worry yourself.

Like Ros says there can be many reasons for a raised creatinine result, many of which are not terribly serious. Drink lots of water to help your kidney function and above all, relax enjoy your Christmas!😀 Claire
