Hello everybody,

My wife had blood clot in her left leg 2 years ago, since then shes been on warfareen, 2 weeks ago she had sonogram test , her doctor decided to stop the medicine because every thing seems ok.

is it really safe to come off it suddenly , dont you think its better to let go gradually ?

There are many reasons to get a DVT and surgery is one of them. You don't move as much afterward and rest lots while you are healing. If there is no reason to take warfarin ie: the clot has resolved and there are no other issues then it will take 3-4 days to get out of your system. If you are still concerned take it up with your doctor and have her tested for APS. (Usually 2 tests 12 weeks apart) There are no doctors on here (well maybe a couple but they don't dispense advice without seeing you or knowing a history) and the advice on here is from those who have APS and have learned to live with it.

If your wife doesent have hughes syndrome and the clot came after surgery, i would not think too much about it. They stopped me taking warfarin and then i developed several clots and now im on it for life. Remember she has to exercise regularly.

Thank you Erlend , my wife doesn't have Hughes syndrome, do you have it ? Why they stopped your blood thinner if you have it?

They told me i had lupus anticoagulant antibodys after my first clots. Later the bloodtests showed it had disapeared in some strange way. So they stopped my bloodthinners (warfarin) and i got massive clotting in my abdomen, groin and leg. So now im back on warfarin for life. But the docs in norway seems completely ignorant.

If Trump becomes your president you shoul be scared. The whole of europe will be laughing at you. And he will make the world a worse place for everyone. When usa elect a dumb president the whole world are affected. I dont think you should be too scared about terrorists in europe. France have their challenges but one cant let fear rule their lives. Your moms from denmark 👍 I just had a long weekend in London and it was a lovely time!

Can you tell us if she has a diagnose of APS (Sticky Blood)?

This is a site for APS. If she has a diagnosed of APS she must never stop anticoagulation.

Best wishes from Kerstin in Stockhom

Thank you Lure2 , no mam my wife doesn't have Hughes syndrome, she got DVT after cesarean delivery and now the clot has resolved.

The way I see it as long as her blood is a certain thinness usually a clot won't form... I would think it's ok for the doc to take her off the coumadin. If it were me I would want the doc to follow up with a test PT/PTT to make sure my blood wasn't getting too thick. I take a enteric coated baby aspirin after turning 40 because I believe our blood thicken as we age 'my preference' but the aspirin must be enteric coated so that it doesn't dissolve until it reaches the intestine avoiding theories of ulcers etc. because aspirin is a blood thinner. Don't be afraid to ask your doc the reasons for his decisions to stop thr coumadin, hope this helps.

This is a site for Antiphospholipidsyndrome (Hughes Syndrome or Sticky Blood).

All our members have this illness and it is about too thick blood. We need proper and stable anticoagulation to thin our blood or we get our symptoms like stroke or embolies or DVTs back. I am on Warfarin and I have an INR between 3.2 - 3.9. We are on lifelong anticoagulation when we have a diagnoze that is why we have asked orgas 1000 if she has Antiphospholipidsyndrome but not yet got an answer.

It is a very good suggestion you have here to "ordinary" people. I think you are right there. We are not allowed to stop anticoagulation not even for 1 day.

Best wishes from Kerstin in Stockholm
