Every month when I get my period im in tears, it feels like I have labor pain. I have been to the emergency every time cos I also have very big lumps of blood coming out. The doctors say its normal and give me pain medication but the pain don't go away. Has anyone else tried this?

In pain
Hi this is not unusual with Hughes Syndrome and or Lupus and indeed probably other autoimmune diseases. It is crucial that you see your main consultant and get a pain management plan in place, with the right medication for you which works with any current medication you are on. Hope you feel better soon. Maryf
Hi murphylotte
I would ask your Doctor if you could have an internal scan. I was presenting with the same problems as you, at first my usual doctor was away and I saw a different one who said oh it's your age and your body changes and put me on some tablets to stop the heavy bleeding and very large clots.
This did not stop the serious pain I was in or In fact the large clots and so I went back and saw my usual doctor who knows me well and he requested an internal scan.
After the scan I was diagnosed with adinomyosis, which is like endometriosis but it is when the cells spread from the uterus into the surrounding muscle and stuff. They explained it to me saying that when you have a period your muscles are trying too! That's where the intense pain comes from.
I was subsequently fitted with the mirena coil in June last year and I have not had and any clots, (well only spot every now and then) and I have no pain.

It's worth them checking this angle out. If you do please let me know how you get on 😀😀😀😀
Have you been investigated for fibroids? Being a girl is no fun sometimes
I have been investigated when I wanted a baby, it took 5 years to make my daughter. I was in all sorts of test in those years. You are right, it's not always fun being a lady with these types of pain.
I had exactly the same experience as Bacardibabe76. However I have a history of Polycystic Ovary syndrome and so everyone assumed it was cyst pain at first. 1st Mirena coil moved and now 6 months in with 2nd try. Periods are lighter and much less painful. Dr Cohen confirmed that Tranexamic acid is safe for APS patients to use to slow down the bleeding and stop the huge clots.
You need to be referred to Gynae for an ultrasound quickly. Unfortunately our choice is Mirena coil or hysterectomy due to APS.
Good luck but you are not alone it is a very common problem along with endometriosis.
I haven't had pain like this, only the last 3 months when I have been on blod thinner. The common gp don't know enough to advise me, I will contact my aps specialist Monday to hear what she think cos this pain hell is no fun every month. Otherwise I find that I have energy again and fell almost normal.
I had the same scenario. I take Vicodin for the pain. Back in 2009 when I went to the emergency room, it turned out I had ovarian cysts. Incredibly painful. My cycles were horrible so I eventually had an endometrial ablation. I haven't bled a drop since. We created our family through adoption so I wasn't concerned with being able to have children. An ablation scalds or scrapes out your endometrial layer. In addition, I also receive depo lupron injections that shut down my ovarian function.
Is it only during periods that you had pain?
I had same problems but at time not yet DX'd with APS! Had endometriosis bad periods and at age 46 had hysterectomy! Never knowing or knew now this had to do with APS??? Does it as I'm newly DX'd and never knew! I must tell my new Specialist all this! I had one pregnancy with high blood pressure and he was a premie that weighed 7 pounds even! A great weight! As precaution he was placed in NICU BECAUSE HE WAS VERY COLD & as a precaution! Since then after trying to become pregnant and having this Belived life, he passed away 9 years ago! At that time my symptoms exasperated and had emergency surgery 3 weeks after his passing! I had life saving tummy surgery due to diverticulitis ( never had it b4) got colostomy bag and had my 6th tummy surgery in July! Oh dear there I go again! I'm sorry! There seems to be much more gynecological help out there today than in my time as I'm 62 years old! Listen to this amazing forum and keep us posted as to how you do! Unfortunately I can't be of help, but maybe u can avoid a hysterectomy by staying in this site!!! GODSPEED
