Hi there, have you had a look through the page on the actual charity website? I know I have had it off one of them! If you can't make up your mind come back to me. MaryF
Hi Mary,
I have tried most of them and unfortunately no one will insure me to go to the USA
Thanks Beth
Hi
I had this problem, but Staysure helped me, as I was advised to take out their top policy for long haul, which does cost quite a bit more. Since then I've been able to use just the normal level of policy they do. I have no problems now as they have all my history and details on their system.
Hope this helps
Hi Beth, I have used a company called direct travel, both times I have travelled to the USA hope it helps.
Rob
Hm, I live in the USA and when we traveled to Ireland, I believe it was just an option to click on to get travel insurance from the website I purchased the trip through. Sorry i can't be of more help.
You need to be careful that pre-existing conditions are covered, always look for any such references, this is what usually catches some of us out and renders the policy useless.
Maybe try an insurance broker and see if he can find one that has a few questions that you can answer satisfactorily. I have one for example that gets difficult only if I give the wrong answers to the following questions. Am I travelling against doctors advice "no", am I going abroad for treatment "No", Do I have a terminal diagnosis "No". Any "Yes" answers and I am scuppered. Unfortunately my policy is restricted to my old profession but there may be similar out there that a broker can find.
Don't forget that insurers share their databases and what you tell one may be known to many.
I kept getting told no so eventually went through my bank account - I now pay a monthly fee on the account and had to pay about £90 extra to cover APS but it was the most cost-effective way I could find for annual worldwide cover.
Hi Beth, I have just renewed my travel insurance with Insure and Go (their contact number is on the 'Travel Insurance' section of the Hughes Syndrome Foundation website - hughes-syndrome.org). They insure APS worldwide, including USA. My premium was higher as I have multi-pathologies, including APS, but they have unlimited pay-outs for medical treatment and repatriation if needed. They're really helpful and efficient.
I was getting insurance through my bank account, but with the monthly payments and loaded premium, it worked out much more expensive than Insure and Go, especially as I wasn't using the other benefits of the account. Bon voyage!
