Constant blood tests but never any answers....

I had a DVT & PE 5 years ago. A couple of months after recovering I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes but I have never needed medication for it - my regular blood tests always indicate it is managed well through diet & exercise.

In the last year or so I have been feeling increasingly exhausted. As far as I know I have had no further clots - but have had 2 episodes of leg pain after which a blood test showed very high d-dimer results. I had a leg scan both times & was told no clots were present. There was never an explanation of why the d-dimer results were as they were.

I get so tired sometimes I cannot go to work & having a good sleep makes no difference.

I have been to the Dr about 5 or 6 times in the last 6 months & each time I have to have a blood test. They tell me all results are fine & send me away. Last night I was told I had a vitamin D deficiency & was given supplements. I now have to have more (!) blood tests to investigate vitamin B + B12 levels.

I am at a loss to know what to do - I don't think it's 'normal' to be this tired. The GP said last night that he didn't think the diabetes was responsible because it is managed well.

A colleague has mentioned several times about Hughes Syndrome because she has a relative with it & thinks I have displayed some of the symptoms over the last few years. I get pain in my chest & elsewhere, sometimes get headaches etc. But it all seems quite mild compared to what many people on here are experiencing.

I'm sorry this is so long - I didn't intend it to be. Just getting it 'off my chest' I suppose.

Thanks for reading.

Hi there, if your GP is investigating B and B12 levels and vitamin D this is good news, being down with them can cause an extra layer of tiredness Do stay your own detective in terms of Hughes Syndrome, as Sero negative Hughes Syndrome is quite common, and please make sure the GP regularly checks your Thyroid function. It sounds as if you are doing your very best to stay on top of it all. Myself and children are all on vitamin D with another consultant wanting us to do Vitamin B12 injections. It is good news to have a careful physician. Mary F x

Hello I was diagnosed 3 years ago and the exhaustion has kicked my butt to the point that I am out on my second round of disability. I am also going to try the gluten free diet but thought I'd let you know that I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. If you find that diet, exercise aren't working you may want to be tested for sleep apnea. This can make you feel exhausted, mental fog, fatique etc. I have also had every blood test, chest and leg test but no results.

Best of Luck!
