Hi there, I can get this if my migraines are particularly bad or I can get it as something on top of everything else if I have a virus, However if this is very uncomfortable or something new, please think about checking in with whoever looks after your care in general, regarding this illness, best wishes. Hi MsKeedy, I suffer the same, and have been told its tinnitus, and I have to live with it, certainly the 'volume' increases if I have a sore head, let alone a migraine. i do get shooting pains in my ear, I have had several hearing tests and exams, but they find nothing to explain the 'pain'. I won't say I live with it, but i tolerate it! . Best of luck Sarahx

The ringing in the ears was explained on this site (relayed from Dr. Hughes) that the blood vessels to the inner ear are quite tiny -- barely the width of some of the blood components they carry. Therefore, since we have "sludge blood," the tinnitis is often a given for many of us.

I've had tinnitus since I was 7 years old.

If you are particularly annoyed by it, try to surround yourself with background, "white" noise which can mask the persistent ringing. I have a small white noise machine (called a "sleep mate") which I turn on at night. And (I kid you not!) there are even Apps for that ! The App I use has a huge number of possible back ground noises: from birds chirpping, to motors running, to cats purring, to waves crashing.

Hi GinaD, may I ask what the app is called?

Sorry for the delay. I did not receive, ( or notice) your post. The ap is called " sleep pillow."

They can give you medicine to take to help with the Tinnitus if it gets too bad . Just a thought :)

There is no medicine specifically for tinnitus. Doctors may offer antidepressants if it becomes very distressing. Or in the case of Ménière's disease there is a tablet called serc. I have tinnitus and have exhausted all avenues and baring a miracle we have to learn to live with it. Many people find relief by masking the tinnitus with sound therapy.

I also on occasions have stabbing head pains which I have been told are known as ice pick headaches.

If what you are experiencing is new to you it is best to see your GP as others have said.

Actually they've had a LOT of success with benzodiazepines. An excess of glutamine , a neurotransmitter, causes tinnitus in many people. Benzodiazepines increase gaba asborbtion which in turns decreases glutamine

I had iodiopathic tinnitus which extreme pain for a decade. They put me on 1mg Valium per day and poof, pain, rining, etc vanished over a 4 week period.

Hi TallBearNC,

Then I guess you do not have HS/APS as we all have on this Forum.

Our symptoms will not go away with benzodiazepines or Valium. We get more tired and get more dizziness and bad memory.

We need Anticoagulation as we have too thick blood here!

Obviously you have landed on the wrong Forum. Hope you do not have more problems now and feel fine.

Best wishes from Kerstin in Stockholm

Could be a viral infection. Look up can viral infections cause tinnitus and how to treat. Could be Ramsey Hunt Syndrome. We are hoping antiviral and steroids for a short period will knock it out for good. I will keep everyone up to date she has had every single test by ENT and neurologists. This is our last hope! Good luck!

Hi Carrielynn 72,

Se what I write on your post today "Major headpain and tinnetis"

Our members all have HS/APS here and that is a blood-disorder and an autoimmun illness caused by antibodies attacking our own organs and tissues and then we need to thin our blood.

I had Tinnitus before starting Warfarin but it is much better now. It was due to micro-emboli also causing bad Vertigo, worse hearing and double-seeing (also lost the sight in my right eye a couple of times) . Problems with microemboli in the middle-ear. Probably your husband who is an Optometrist understands about this.

So try another Forum and try bloodthinning also perhaps if it should be HS/APS! Before Warfarin I started with baby-Aspirin and it helped a bit Tinnitus can be very difficult to get rid of completely even with bloodthinning.

Best wishes from Kerstin

I accidentally put on the wrong post! I am sorry! I was trying to put on Tinnitus and head pain.

Hi. Carrielynn72,

Those symtoms often go with HS/APS as neurolgical symptoms are common in this disease.

Ask you friend, after you all have read about this illness, that we want her to put her own question as a member after she is diagnosed with HS/APS. That will be easier for all parts.

Hi, you have just joined and I see you are posting on behalf of a friend who doesnt have diagnoses of Hughes/APS, our disease is very complicated as it relates to our bloods. You have also answered to a 2 year old post - please just ask your own questions on Hughes/APS once your friend has diagnoses.

I have had tinnitus since APS came along. I have a leftsided Otolit-damage from a TIA or Micro-clot. My stabbing head pain is gone after I started warfarin. I am so used to my tinnitus and I do not think of it. It is only bruise not high tones. If I am tired and if my INR is low it gets worse.

May be this is due to deficiency of:

1. Vit B12

2. Vit D

3. Serum Iron

Carry our appropriate tests to evaluate the above. in my case all these parameters were low, particularly Iron was low, i started taking iron suppliments advised by the doctor, i am feeling much better now. if it works for u please share with as many sufferers as possible and to me also.

also check if u have any allergy, and treat it.

Best Wishes. :) Ajay

With all autoimmune disease it is a good idea to check these regularly,as well as thyroid function. as there often is a problem. MaryF

Hi everyone, i've been reading the comments and i'm surprised not one person has mentioned mobile phones and portable landlines causing tinnitus. My portable landline caused my ear to get very hot after about half an hour. And after i'd say a year or two of this, i then began to experience tinnitus. Researched a lot and found there are high levels of electro magnetic frequencies (EMF) emitted. I watched an electrician do a radiation meter test on both the portable landlines and mobiles. The readings were sky high and he also found this near a microwave oven. I got rid of mobile, portable landline, digital alarm clock, microwave and eventually my tinnitus gradually went. So, no, you don't have to live with it at all. We ended up getting another mobile, but we hardly use it and never at the side of the head. Always on loudspeaker. Keep anything that has EMFs in your bedroom, out of the bedroom when you're sleeping. Good luck!
