I may need to have some injections in... - Hughes Syndrome A...
I may need to have some injections in my back because of a numb thigh. Does anyone know if its ok to have injections with APS?
Just curious, is the numbness just above your knee and traveling/spreading in an upwards "V" pattern? Numbness, itching, burning?

Hi Willa
I have central canal stenosis secondary to posterior disc bulges at L3/4and L4/5, and when I had my last injection which was conducted in an operating theatre under X-ray, I had a stroke a week later.
I also have severe arthritis of the lower spine and pelvis but was given injections under X-ray prior to being in Warfarin,I was on Clopidogrel, in the sacro-iliac joint/s? and I had no problem or was that when I was ill again too? I cannot remember.
So, I am in so much severe pain in my spine it affects my mobility so my GP has sent a begging letter for him to do another steroid/epidural. Well, I was ill then.
But when my Rheumatologist gave me a depo-Medrone? injection into my backside; she didn't administer it, she got a nurse to do it, well it helped with my overall physical painful joints etc but I was only given two because I have other illnesses which they had to consider. So now the Pain Specialist is not keen to give me injections but I cannot carry on living the way I do.I am on five different types of pain killers including three types of opiates like Morphine and Tramadol. I have been told I am on the highest doses possible in the community and I am still in pain, so I despair about my future. But numbness, I have always had.
It would depend on whether the consultant thinks an injection may cause a stroke and what type of blood thinning tablets you are on. I get a lot of numbness too but have never been given injections to alleviate this problem though I must say it depends on my INR levels quite a lot, that is why they first thought I might have MS. I am feeling a lot better on Warfarin but I still get numbness in my fingers, hands and toes and sometimes my feet.
Also, I had a total knee replacement and a new patella last year and have numbness allover my knee and down the right side of my lower leg. I just have to live with it. I will have to have this operation repeated in approximately ten years time.
Hi Willa,
I have spinal canal stenosis. I had to come off Warfarin and go onto Clexane for the procedure. I was given facet injection into the spine. Due yo complications with my breathing and low oxygen in the blood, I could not have very high sedation. It took about a week before I felt any real improvement and then it was great.
For me, unfortunately, it did not last more than a month to 6 weeks. But was sure good while it lasted !!
Good luck and I hope that all goes well.
Hi Willa
I have APS etc and am on warfarin.
Since being on warfarin I have had sclerosing injections into my sacro iliac joints and pubic symphysis. Facet joint injections in theatre under slight sedation and last week steroid injections into both shoulders. My INR is generally between 4 and 4.5 I have never had a problem with any of them.
Hope this helps

Willa,
Depends on the injection. You need to talk it through with your consultant or the doctor who is monitoring your APS.
Are you on warfarin now and would you need to come off it while having these injections? If so what would be the alternative to warfarin? That is the sort of thing your consultant can advise on.
my advise is Don't go for the injections as it can worsen things and still leaving you in pain.I had the injection in 2010 and i was in agony for months and months, its no better as im still prone to disc problems and at the moment im having to put up with a slip disc.
I hope things work out for you,but my advise is to not have any injections.
