I have been in AF for 15 hours . This is a record for me . My meds Propafenone and Carvedilol not helping. I’ve no symptoms. Normally AF stops after a few hours. I’m in isolated Scotland on holiday and a bit worried.

AF 14 hours
First, try to stay calm. You say you are not symptomatic. What is your approximate rate ?I went into a fast AF at 140+ on a cruise ship coming through Bay of Biscay and my meds Bisoprolol and Disopyramide did nothing to help. I tried to stay calm. Did not want to consult ships doctor in case I was airlifted off !!.....bit dramatic I know ! Anyway I converted to NSR not long after returning home. The same may happen to you . You are on Apixiban I see so that us good. Stay well hydrated.
Unpleasant and scary though this feels kalgs, unless you want to, there's no need to make a dash for home. The greatest danger from AF overridingly always was, and will be, stroke, and very rarely the elevated heart rate, and if you are taking your anticoagulant medication, you are no less safe right now than you were before this longer episode started.Whether this stops shortly or not, and as it's a new stage for you, you should ask for professional help at home after your holiday. If this episode continues to persist you'd likely be a candidate for a hospital trip for cardioversion, to try to put you back into normal rhythm, but many people do live permanently with AF.
It's a hugely unsettling thing, not knowing if or when you'll go back into normal rhythm but the least frustrated and concerned you can keep yourself, probably the greatest chance that it may settle on its own again.
Hi Kalgs
How did you know you are in AF if you have no symptoms?
Honestly, these days (16 years of AF) I just carry on as normal if I become aware of my heart rate. If it makes me feel ill, then that's a different matter.
How are you now?
Jean
How are you feeling today?
I get 2 days in AF and 2 days out.
Are you having ablation?
Not as yet, I really do not fancy it .It is a mixed bag whether or not it cures it, or end up with another type of Arrhythmia. I am trying hard with a lot of natural supplements etc and sadly more than a mouthful of red wine can trigger it. Not overweight , exercise and try to eat very well most of the time.
I myself, do not have a-fib, but my neighbor does. Her last bout lasted 14 MONTHS! She just went about her business as usual. My husband has short bouts of a-fib lasting a few minutes to several hours. They told him it's nothing to worry about and to just take an aspirin everyday. He doesn't take any heart meds.
