Pace/Ablate

Just home from my Pacemaker implantation this morning! I wasn't expecting it until end of March but had a call on Tues pm to see if I would take a very short notice cancellation.

It went well. I had a Medtronic Solara CRT-P 3 lead device . The procedure itself took about 2 hours. It was a bit Ouchy at times but I survived🙂. I needed to take some Cocodamol shortly after I got home as pain in chest area which has now cleared. The bedside box which I believe tracks the PM will be sent direct to me. That will be reassuring.

(No problem with dressing either (!) ...my normal bra fitted OK, just left one strap off...)

We are going to decide later whether or not to delay the final AVN ablation. Will see how I go after the first check up in 6 weeks.

So glad all went well today, must have been bit of a shock for you to be offered the procedure earlier than planned. It would be lovely to hear how you get on.Best wishes

Thats what happened to me. I had pm put on and to have AC node ablation 5 weeks later. The new cardio up hear decided against so never went ahead, thus i ended up sufferring three and a half years of suffering trying every medication man could concoct. Some weeks ago i had that ablation and i am now on no drugs except anticoagulant and i feel wonderfull apart from some palpitation continuing. I do feel tired still f the ablation but i am feeling posirive that will subside. All the best Colin ,New Zealand.

horrible not doing your ablation. That’s how you keep the damage from continuing because it blocks off the heart’s natural pacemaker that is not working right it’s not something you do easily but if you need it, you need it if you pacemaker, you probably need the ablation. I am so sorry they made you wait. They fitted my pacemaker and I was scheduled right then and there to be back in two weeks for the ablation. That was the day I felt like I came back to life.

I hope you’re doing better now I know you’re a fighter you’re gonna be OK most of us on here are the same way that’s why we get things done like we do because we want to live a good life

congratulations my pacemaker just had its second birthday on Valentine’s Day. I think the worst part of that was after the ablation part because I had the worst headache for about four days. I learned in the hospital that is very normal with the anesthesia. That was my first time running into it.

remember to keep your left arm still I always laugh and say I am Italian. I talk with my hands. It seems like I’m always flapping around. The nurse told me I should have someone pin my sleeve to my side so I can’t do that. I also am a left side it has to be the left. My EP came in and saw me doing that and kind of freaked out for a minute until he saw the way I had pillows. There are ways around many things. I don’t know when I became ambidextrous I used to say why do I have a left hand? I never use it but then when I couldn’t wow lol

you are going to have a learning curve we all do it takes time it takes time to heal. I hope they told you that and you are prepared. Some people are faster than It took me almost a year. They also forgot to tell I was still going to be able to feel a fib and flutter. Once my doctor told me that I was fine knowledge is power when you can understand something it’s much easier to deal with. I have not had one regret about my pacemaker and AV node ablation. I got a bug a few months ago, except for how I felt with that I will tell you I never thought I could feel normal like I have been since the pacemaker. I won’t be running around joining Cirque du Soleil or playing jump rope anytime soon, but usually I forget I have a fib and flutter and heart failure. If you think about it a lot then you’re going to it a lot. Try not to do that.

best of luck however about a pacemaker. I hope it’s a good thing for you now I waspacemaker until we sat and talked number one. I had no choice, but also I realized how much good it was going to do for me. My EP said neither my or me could take much more. I been able to walk. I was in a wheelchair back to my car because they made but I was able to stand up and get into the myself best feeling ever. I felt the more it almost seemed like a fib was a nightmare that’s gone away. no, we can’t be cured, but hopefully you are going to get the quality of life again that you had or even better. That’s what our doctors are trying to do for us. They know they can’t cure it, but they want us to be happy living. I thought I was going to have to live like some kind of vegetable just sitting there that is no longer true.

we will have good days and bad it is what it is. Once you get over the healing and learning curve, I pray you have many more good days and once you start figuring out triggers if you have some, which you will make sure you keep away from them and you will feel even better. Mind body and positivity I have faith in you.

Thank you for your helpful reply.

The plan is for me to have the AVN ablation.....I had asked to see if I was better after just the pacemaker ! Heart is still disorganised so I imagine it will go ahead sometime after 6 week check.

I'm being very careful with movement, not raising arm above head etc.

I've had 5 RF ablations so that part doesn't worry me unduly, just the thought of being totally pacemaker dependent.
